Corporate radio relies heavily on research and focus groups. The role of the Program Director has evolved into a different kind of position. Like it or not. All industries change..some for the better some for the worse. In any event if radio is an industry you choose remain apart of you will have to conform to those changes or think about a new career.
As far as the Performance Rights Bill it was amended as follows:
The Judiciary Committee approved an amendment offered by Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich., who introduced the bill. The amendment reduces the fee small stations would pay in a nod to critics, including minority broadcasters like Radio One, who say extra fees would devastate the strapped radio industry and especially hurt minority-owned stations.
The changes create a sliding fee scale for small stations. Stations with annual gross revenues of less than $100,000 would pay $500 each year. Those with gross revenues between $100,000 and $500,000 would pay $2,500. Those between $500,000 and $1.25 million would pay a royalty fee of $5,000 per year.
In the original bill, stations with gross revenues of less than $1.25 million would pay a flat fee of $5,000. Non-commercial stations, such as college stations, would pay $1,000. Talk formatted-stations and religious broadcasters would be exempt from the new fees.
The fees wouldn’t start for three years if a station’s revenues are less than $5 million annually, and for one year for others
These fees "will not" put black radio out of business. These are yearly "blanket fees" just as the fees to ASCAP BMI and SESAC are "blanket fees" If anything the "artists" for whom this bill is supposed to benefit from ..will still get shafted in the end. That's another story.
One final personal observation..why is it that "WE" have this crabs in the barrel mentality? Some of the worst vents on this forum are about how horrible Radio One is. Do they have issues and things that need fixing?..Absolutely! But so do the other corporate owned radio stations. I have acquaintances who are programmers at white radio...it's just as bad ..the only difference is they don't waste time bitchin and moanin about it they move on. There is a lot of bad stuff at ALL of them..but there is a lot of BAD stuff in business period. You have to find or create what works for you.
At the end of the day instead of spending valuable time hoping for the demise of Radio One and how much you hate them...you have a choice...don't work for them!..find another gig...get out of radio! If you or someone you know works or have worked for them when it's all said and done it was YOUR choice to do so in the first place.
"THOSE THAT CAN....DO---THOSE THAT CAN'T....SIT AROUND AND BITCH ABOUT IT ON THE VENT ALL DAY!"
Build up instead of tearing down ...it's a much better look!
Elroy Smith has been the cancer at 100.3 the Beat since he got tossed out of Chicago for payola. Now he's taken his 'PAYOLA" game to the next level with his Music Seminar..its a scam people...You explain to me why the Beat can't get any major artists to come do a concert without cancelling it 3 times? Because Elroy does not ASK them too, because he saves them for his Music Seminar!!!Last year he made over 100K from it..i know because i am a former employee who was forced to promote it!!!
Elroy had done nothing for that station but hire all his gay cronies...and while i have no problem with the gayness...why was his car parked in the parking lot at 4am 2wks ago and his office door was ajar and the promotions guy was in his office as well, in the dark and when the door was knocked on the guy yelled out,"I'm workin' in here"..C'mon if someone knocks on ur office door at 4am and ur inside, you are GONNA open it up just to see who else is at the station at that time of the morn. NOT THEM!!! They just kept on sucking and what not...just nasty..he thinks by knocking his wife up every season we won't know that he's bi? Sure glad he got fixed after this last baby! He was sooo pissed off that his wife was prego agin, that he went and had a vasectomy! He told me so!
If u wanna know who's behind that letter to upper management...look at Elroy..he and Andy are both worried that one of them is getting let go because of budgets..and both their contracts are up this year...Just watch as this soap unfolds....
This means podcasts, internet radio, speciality shows and more for the creative radio person.
RIP Bo Diddley... Prayers to his family.
____________________________________________________
Bo Diddley, the musical pioneer whose songs, such as "Who Do You Love?" and "Bo Diddley," melded rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll through a distinctive thumping beat, has died. He was 79.
Diddley died Monday, surrounded by family and loved ones at his home in Archer, Florida, a family spokeswoman said.
The cause was heart failure, his family said.
The world-renowned guitarist's signature beat -- usually played on an equally distinctive rectangular-bodied guitar -- laid the foundation for rock 'n' roll, and became so identified with him that it became known as the "Bo Diddley" beat. It was unlike anything else heard in pop music.
"This distinctive, African-based 5/4 rhythm pattern (which goes bomp-bomp-bomp bomp-bomp) was picked up by other artists and has been a distinctive and recurring element in rock 'n' roll through the decades," according to the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.
Guitarist George Thorogood, a Diddley disciple, put it more bluntly.
"[Chuck Berry's] 'Maybellene' is a country song sped up," Thorogood told Rolling Stone in 2005. " 'Johnny B. Goode' is blues sped up. But you listen to 'Bo Diddley,' and you say, 'What in the Jesus is that?' "
Among the artists who made use of the Bo Diddley beat were Buddy Holly ("Not Fade Away," later covered by the Rolling Stones), Johnny Otis ("Willie and the Hand Jive"), the Yardbirds (covering Diddley's "I'm a Man" and adding their own guitar stylings to the closing bars, which were later incorporated into the Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction"), the Strangeloves ("I Want Candy"), Bruce Springsteen ("She's the One"), U2 ("Desire") and George Michael ("Faith"). Hundreds of artists have covered Diddley songs. Blog: The genius of Bo Diddley
His debut single was his self-titled 1955 classic, with "I'm a Man" as its B-side. The songs were released on Chicago's Chess-Checker Records label, also the home of Chuck Berry and Willie Dixon.
"It was the first in a string of groundbreaking sides that walked the fine line between rhythm & blues and rock 'n' roll," his Hall of Fame biography says.
Diddley was also a pioneer of the electric guitar, tweaking his instruments and adding a variety of effects to his recordings.
A contemporary of Berry, Fats Domino and Elvis Presley, Diddley cut a stylish figure on the rock 'n' roll landscape. With his guitar, dark glasses and black hat, he looked vaguely menacing; his music was much earthier and bluesier than that of his rock 'n' roll contemporaries.
However, Diddley wasn't above climbing on bandwagons in search of wider popularity; his early 1960s albums included such titles as "Bo Diddley Is a Gunslinger," "Bo Diddley's a Twister," "Bo Diddley's Beach Party" and "Surfin' with Bo Diddley."
Eventually, Diddley returned to his roots and became a rock 'n' roll elder statesman. He was featured in the Thorogood video "Bad to the Bone," playing pool with Thorogood, and showed up during the Nike "Bo Knows" campaign starring Bo Jackson.
At the conclusion of a Nike commercial that showed Jackson excelling at a variety of sports, the athlete picked up a guitar and produced a squall of noise. Cut to Diddley, listening to the attempt: "Bo, you don't know Diddley," he said.
"I never could figure out what it had to do with shoes, but it worked," Diddley told The Associated Press. "I got into a lot of new front rooms on the tube."
Diddley was born Ellas Otha Bates in McComb, Mississippi, on December 30, 1928. He later took the name McDaniel after being adopted by his mother's cousin. Diddley's family moved to Chicago when he was 7, according to his Hall of Fame biography.
He played violin as a child, but said he was inspired to pick up the guitar after hearing John Lee Hooker's 1949 rhythm and blues hit, "Boogie Chillen."
He told many stories of how he got the name "Bo Diddley." In a 1999 interview, he said it came from his childhood friends, according to AP. Other tales included a one-string instrument from traditional blues called a diddley bow, the AP notes.
Either way, it became his own -- as did his music.
"I don't like to copy anybody. Everybody tries to do what I do, update it," he told the AP. "I don't have any idols I copied after."
"They copied everything I did, upgraded it, messed it up. It seems to me that nobody can come up with their own thing, they have to put a little bit of Bo Diddley there," he said.
He continued to tour well into 2007, but suffered a stroke last May and a heart attack in August.
He was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in January 1987.
Though he was upset that he never received the financial rewards he expected -- "I am owed," he told the AP, adding "a dude with a pencil is worse than a cat with a machine gun" -- he reflected modestly on the rock 'n' roll revolution he helped start.
"Well, it's no different from anything else, I guess. I started sumthin'. I just happened to be the first one," he told the British magazine Uncut in 2005. "But I never thought it would turn into what it did. Somebody had to be first, and it happened to be me."

CHICAGO — Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president.
The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City. She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over.
officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.
The advisers said Clinton has made a strategic decision to not formally end her campaign, giving her leverage to negotiate with Obama on various matters including a possible vice presidential nomination for her. She also wants to press him on issues he should focus on in the fall, such as health care.
Universal health care, Clinton's signature issue as first lady in the 1990s, was a point of dispute between Obama and the New York senator during their epic nomination fight.
Politics, much like radio, is no longer about "substance". The process has been dumbed down election after election. It makes sense that Barack Obama is leaving himself plenty of wiggle room in terms of specific policies. Most Americans only want a confident, comforting presence in the Oval Office, whether they admit it or not. It worked TWICE each for Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush! The Republicans "get it", and apparently now the Democrats do.
Hillary has to offer her support UNconditionally. Screw that 'I've got 18 million voters' BS. If she muscles her way on to the ticket like that, the subliminal message becomes backroom politics is still the order of the day. She and Bill Clinton both let some real crazy mess fall out of their mouths during the campaign, and this is the price she pays. There may still be a spot for her in the Cabinet if BHO is elected, tho.
You are on crack still a BLACK man is not good enough. Black people really didnt know anything about the Clintons before he ran for president. Because they wasnt black we trust them like we always do we dont believe in ourselves, why do we all ways have to finsh last. Last nite she said the hell with this BLACK man winning I want bow down.
OBAMA NEEDS HILARY LIKE HILARY NEEDS A HOT COMB!
All due respect, please follow the "Vetting Process" for V.P selections. The potential candidates, for VP,and their spouse "BILL", must DISCLOSE their financials, sources included. Bill Clinton, has refused to disclose the donor list to the Clinton Library which received over 600 million in donations. What about his income sources,? He failed to comply.

who did'nt think that he would make it this far...When it's your time ,

If we Presumptive African American Male cadidate for the President of the United States, how come Radio One can't seem to find any qualified African American GM's. I though Ms. Hughes was for the "Empowerment" of women and African Americans?
You have all of these big names with big credentials such as: Barry Mayo and Jay Stevens but the programming of the stations continue to "under perform".
Black radio needs to go back to the day where the local PD added records based on "gut feeling" and what was best for their market.
Lynn Tolliver was great about that. He broke alot of artist and he was not afraid to go against the labels as to what was a hit. The bottom line the station, listners, and the label all benifited.
Who came up with the theory that playing the same 10 records in a row is good programming? Actually it 's "lazy programming". People like VARIETY.....VARIETY....VARIETY. When everyone catchs up with XM/Sirrus radio they will never go back to free radio. It's work a $7.00 monthly investment for VARIETY.

I know you Nigros who read this vent, who all band wagon riders who really know nothing about this guy and who are influenced by the corporate owned media who pushes this guy like black radio pushes bad black music and after hyping him over and over you finally like him.

One last thing- This web site needs more of variety when it comes to editorial comments about the current state of radio. Rome is burning and nothing is being done or said on this site.
The "experienced" politicians (HRC, too!) have landed us in the mess the country is in now.
Remember the definition of insanity?

TEENS NOW FAVOR NEW TECH FOR MUSIC OVER RADIO, SAYS COLEMAN: Coleman Insights has released a study revealing that teenagers now listen to music on a computer, iPod or MP3 player more than terrestrial radio. 84% claimed they listened to music every day using the former mediums, while 78% of 14- to 17-year-olds reported listening to AM/FM radio everyday. Additionally, 41% of 15- to 17-year-olds said they listen to new music first on iPods or other MP3 players compared to only 22% for FM radio “The fact that kids are using alternatives to radio obviously isn’t news to anyone, but this is the first time in all our studies that we’ve seen the numbers support new technologies over radio,” said Coleman Insights president Jon Coleman.

FOX NEWS (a.k.a. FOX NOISE) did a segment where they called Michelle Obama (Senator Barack Obamas' Wife), "Obamas' "Baby Momma." That was extreamly disrespectful.
FOX NOISES' Anchor, E.D. Hill tried to suggest that a "Straight Pound" was a "Terrorist Fist Bump".
The F.C.C. (Federal Communications Commission) states, “rigging or slanting the news is a most heinous act against the public interest.” The key-phrase here is "heinous act." Heinous means shockingly brutal or cruel.
Obamas' Baby Momma" as a news headline is the most blantant and heinous slanting of news I've ever seen!
Remember in 2000 FOX distorted the news by projecting George W. Bush as the winner in Florida and hence, the election.
What are you gonna do about it? Are you going to continue to let the CORPORATE MEDIA continue to use your airwaves to slander black women?
Should we take action and mobiize a "targeted" boycott of all FOX SPONSORS or leave it alone? What do you think?

The NBPC attends “Operation Homecoming” in Tuskegee, Alabama
Homecoming – it’s an annual event held by educational institutions to celebrate their past accomplishments and future opportunities. During Memorial Weekend the Negro Airmen International, The Biofuels Racing Alliance, Black Farmers, and the Black Leadership Coalition put their own spin on the traditional homecoming concept with “Operation Homecoming”, and members of National Black Programmers Coalition (NBPC) joined in the festivities. Like traditional homecomings, Operation Homecoming attracted people young and old from near and far to participate in the various activities. This year’s “homecoming theme” was Selma to Montgomery: Making an Economic Impact. The purpose of Operation Homecoming was not only to celebrate the rich history of Tuskegee, but also to infuse much-needed dollars into the local economy.
The Fly-in consisted of plane rides for kids, bike races, car/bike exhibits and several local business vendors. The weekend’s events and festivities included performances, tours of historic sites, economic development and health related seminars, an awards ceremony, a a fish fry, a tree planting/memorial ceremony, and ended Sunday with the National Black Programmers Coalition (NBPC)’s monthly meeting.
A special featured event was the Negro Airmen International’s (NAI) 41st annual Fly-in at Moton Airfield where bikers, pilots, racecar drivers, aviation enthusiasts, entertainers, and entrepreneurs gathered to celebrate the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen. Attendees had the opportunity to visit the hanger where the Tuskegee Airmen trained and walk the future site of the Tuskegee Airmen Museum. A notable and memorable aspect of the weekend for most attendees was the opportunity to meet and speak with many of the Tuskegee Airmen who were in attendance and shared their stories of struggle and triumph. Other highlights included two homecoming concerts, one of which was held Saturday evening featuring renowned Blues artist Clarence Carter. The NBPC meeting featured a repeat of the popular “Aircheck/Soundcheck” session and a lively discussion about “Black” media.
The NBPC is proud to have been a part of this historic event and congratulate those whose dedication to this cause made the weekend a success. We look forward to participating again in the years to come.
Elroy is a fool if he thinks Monique will bring the numbers that Lady B has. Who will he fire to shift the blame for this major mistake....hmmmm Moshay?
Shout out to VH-1 Soul!!

sh$%tz hottttt!! That peanut butter stunt for tickets was nasty. Buck is a mad sciencetist. I remember Nu York from the ville. Don't let buck
intimidate you. Make him recognize your talent. And buck should stop
his critizing on air live.
Huntsville radio is sleeping right now. The trends shows the new hot
103.5 making slow progress. In my opinion, some song titles need to be played only by the hot hit station in the area; that's wzyp. Weup continues to keep it gangster. They might be losing some market share, but they continue to stay true to the game. Hot might need to tweak their playlist sooner than later. Any body have the 411 on the night shows on weup and hot 103.5?
NuYork has a lot of promise and she needs to hang tough.
The station that I was attempting to listen to was WMNX-Wilmington, NC. The jock was some no talented dud name P-Money. Dude work on your skills, perfect your mix and leave the sound effects alone for 5 minutes and let the damn music play. That was one of the worst displays of mixing or lack of programming I've ever heard and I have heard a lot. I couldn't listen to 5 minutes of your set because it was that bad.
BTW
I didn't know that it was cool to play explicit material on the radio outside of satellite radio. Please know what versions you are about to play.
Good move on there part, but will anyone past chester would be able to hear her?
Same morning shows, same Afternoon shows, and hell, now they are trying to take over nights (Quiet Storm)......GIVE US A BREAK!! I am NOT even going to get started on how many other jocks are loosing their jobs after YEARRRRRRS of loyalty!
Final note to the PD's....What are you the PD of when you ONLY have one live show (MID-DAY)? It's just a matter of time before "THEY" find somebody (another Actor/Singer) to promote in that daypart.
Kelson Nabs 92Q MD Gig - 6/24 - Radio One appoints Vernon Kelson as the music director of urban WERQ, 92Q. A Baltimore native, Kelson joined WERQ in 2002 as a programming intern. He eventually got his own air shift. In 2003, he became assistant music director, and has been acting music director since December 2007.....
Why did they put Monique on during afternoons and have Olivia Fox on middays?!!! That makes zero sense, Olivia would have given Michael Baisden a run for his money during that time This is why urban radio SUCKS you are hearing uneducated , washed up comedians attempting to do radio, and what you get is what you hear...........GARBAGE!!! Is it me? Any feedback?...........
a holier than thou feel with her heavy-handed themes of respect
and faith. Not that those aren't important, but this is supposed to be entertainment. She's supposed to be funny and relaxed and personable, taking the listener on an enjoyable four-hour journey each afternoon. Anyone willing to guess how much she's being paid to do this show? Is it in the six-figure range?
Just a thought.
A disc jockey (also known as DJ or deejay) is a person who selects and plays prerecorded music for an audience.
There are several types of disc jockey. Radio DJs introduce and play music that is broadcast on AM, FM, shortwave, digital or online radio stations. Club DJs select and play music in a bar, club, disco, a rave, or even a stadium. Hip hop disc jockeys select, play and create music with multiple turntables, often to back up one or more MCs. In reggae, the disc jockey (deejay) is a vocalist who raps, toasts or chats over pre-recorded rhythm tracks while the individual choosing and playing them is referred to as a selector. Mobile disc jockeys travel with portable sound systems and play at a variety of events. Who will be at the Million DJ March?
Questions:
1. What will this march accomplish?
2. Who will lead this march and where will it end?
3. What are the criteria to become a DJ?
4. Who determines these criteria?
5. What is the financial gain to this march?
6. Who will collect the finances?
7. Where will the finances be held?
8. What purpose will these finances be used for?
9. After the march what will happen?
10. What is the mission of the March organizers?
11. Is there a national or international agenda?
I have been bombarded with email recently concerning a Million DJ March on Washington DC. I have no idea where this is coming from but it raises a lot of questions in my mind. Having been raised in the civil rights era I know the power of placing a million men on the streets of Washington DC. I have witnessed the strength of community purpose and solidarity a million Black men can create. So I am at a complete lost as to why anyone would want to have a million DJ march.
First and foremost there are not a million DJ’s within this country that could be organized to start a march. Where is this concept coming from? Who will ultimately gain from this event?
The role of the DJ (Disc Jockey) is changing around the world directly influenced by technology and the mp3 format. Clubs are using premixed mp3’s in lieu of the traditional record spinning DJ, and where there are DJ’s club owners are starting to dictate play list restrictions and requirements. Outside of the United States night clubs are playing dance music from many different cultures and the Hip Hop dance club is no where near as popular as these cultural dance clubs.
As I started my research on the Million DJ March I found a recurring theme. Labels and major businesses that reap the reward of default publicity should reward the DJ. Tell me what this means? Club DJ’s are paid to move the crowd so that the club owners can sell more liquor. Radio DJ’s are paid a salary to make more people listen to the radio so that the station can sell more advertising. Mixtape DJ’s make money on other peoples music, without paying royalties to the musical creators. Where is the default publicity?
This sounds increasingly more like the radio station owners saying that they shouldn’t pay royalties on the music they play because the record labels get default publicity from the songs being heard.
Who is approving this march? The Million DJ March website says that civil rights leaders and the people that started the Million Man March have given approval, who are these people?
The civil rights era was about equality, human rights and a better life. What is this march about? DJ’s getting better pay? Recognition from major labels, that don’t really need DJ’s, makes no sense to me. Labels are more concerned with the advent of direct to consumer sales, the disappearing of the retail outlet and the inability of TV to sell product. Why would they be concerned over the perceived injustice of a few DJ’s? And what record label headquarters is in Washington DC?
My next questions concerns who are really involved in this fiasco? Have the DJ’s from the Gay and Lesbian coalition been contacted? Have the international DJ’s in the United
States been made a part of this march preparation or is this directed at a closed minority? Who are the speakers and what are there affiliations?
And finally what will a DJ union consist of? Who will be the operating officers and what will be the agenda? What will it take to join this union and how will it protect DJ’s from being fired or moved due to new technological advances? And what about the new VJ and the concerns they may have over the mixing of video?
Something just doesn’t feel right about this one.
Here is something that was sent to me:
THE MILLION DJ MARCH
Washington D.C.
On August 30, 2008 DJs will descend on Washington to celebrate decades of service to the entertainment industry. They will listen to speeches from leaders of music groups, founding DJs, and Civil Rights activists all on the dawn of a new election year.
The March and activities will take place from August 28- 30, 2008 in Washington DC, with the actual rally taking place on the 30 at 10 am, on the National Mall, extending from the Capitol Building to the Washington Monument. Disc jockeys will gather from all over the world to discuss the current state of the DJ, and highlight the true integral importance of their role.
The organizer of the historic event, A. Shaw, felt compelled to address her concern for DJs after noticing they weren't often adequately compensated for their time, effort and dedication in working with labels, promoters and artists. "DJ's do not get recognized for the work that they do. Labels and major businesses who reap the rewards of default publicity, need to pay more attention and give more recognition to DJ's for the promotion they provide," she said. The march, which has already been approved by both civil rights activist and those who founded the Million Man March, has already caught the attention of thousands of DJs and DJ organizations. The Million DJ March will express the history of the culture and show appreciation to the people that are truly the backbone of the music and entertainment.
"DJs are the middlemen in the success of the industry. They are the filters that help the economy of many markets. DJs are the least compensated in the industry element. No matter how many write ups DJs obtain, no matter how many tours they grace, they seem to stay on the same level. It seems that the DJs are a culture of sorts that is segregated by parts of the industry. I am calling on the industry to show support of an event to unify DJs and create future economic safety for these people. The Million DJ March will be the conclusion to a long road of requests from many markets to aid in our mission of security." The event will also introduce a new DJ union, developed to protect those who chose this art form as a career. This movement will help set the industry standards for all DJs, while protecting the incomes of those already established, and providing goals for upcoming DJ's. While this is not the sole point of the march, it is an example of many points the Conference of the March will focus on.

Sounds like it could be a good cause but they should have planned this better. A lot of djs I know haven't heard about this and another group heard but don't know enough about it. It's almost July now.
Please get your games up and keep good radio, good radio witih knowing the basics. But put some flair on it if you want to see yourself on the next level.
Don't piss off your management trying to do this either. Sure Julian, the cat on the aircheck page, may not be the #1 jock in the Chi, but he's good, and I could listen to his entire show. If you know me, that means a lot.. Especially in my book.
2. Also how is the Big boi show?
3. Is Miss Jones officially moving to Philly now or is a Hot station in NY about to grab her?
4. Any stations looking for some old school mixes for thier Urban AC station?
2. It's "Big BOY" not "Boi". Big Boy is ok. His show is put together well and his timing as far as him being on Power 99 is good out of breaks. His show still has a "west coast" feel but sound close to being national.
3. Miss Jones never moved from just outside of Philly. She drove to Hot 97 every morning. She now will drive to 100.3 The Beat.
4. Can't help you there.
Message to Radio One: Syndicate Olivia Foxx. I think she will do well against Baisden.
LaDawn would be great in Philly because she was popular on WDAS. Also DC already strains to listen to her in Baltimore and she should be on in DC.
Foxx is already a star and a vet and would make waves in any market.
Look for Miss Jones to be syndicated from The Beat Philly to other R1 stations.
This is strange for Hot 97. Big Boy is on sister station Power 106 L.A. but I never thought he would fit Hot 97's style. Then for that matter, I never thought he would fit Power 99 Philly but seems to be working out well.
Now that Jonesy will be local to Philly I think she will take Power 99 and Big Boy under.
I'm soooooo confused!

Q93 finally gets some competition since HOT 104.5 signed off.
Hot 97 is no longer an exciting brand. It's stale.
Now that radio corporations are being cheap what is going to happen to these HD stations- automation?
radio was radio. I hardly ever listen to that station anymore because after Sam Sylk and Crazy Howard were cast aside i just can't get into the station anymore. Listening to that old tape of Rick has me really missing the old days when we also listened for the personality

Webcasters could soon have an audience of mass transit commuters, thanks to plans among a growing number of cities to implement Wi-Fi hi-speed Internet access to their public transportation systems. For example, it's possible that "leaky" coax cables, already present in subway tunnels, could be used to broadcast the Internet to commuters using San Fransisco's BART (Bay Area Rapid Transportation) system.
wheres the local talent?

If this song had come across my desk, it would have gone straight into the trash bin. I admit I would have been wrong. Would this make me a bad PD? How can I be in tune with what listeners want? As a PD, can you rely on research alone? Don't you have to use your instincts too?
Hot 97 has been running nothing but music for the past week and a half. Im sure everyone has been tuning into Ed Lover on Power 105.1 since all Hot 97 has been playing is the same ole 106 & Park payola songs every morning.
Too bad Pulse 87's signal is so weak. Star an Buc Wild are good, so I listen to them online.
Pulse 87 does NOT have an Urban lean. It's Pop Guido Dance, POP remixes of Rhinna and Chris Brown songs and Techno Mix Shows on Friday and Satruday nights. Very unUrban. Even Dance Music fans complain about the station only targeting Italians and older Puerto Ricans (80/90s Freeystyle music).

old school perspective, but think of this: The true education level of a 18 yo in 2008 and the education level of a 18 yo in 1980. Think about how public education has changed. Secondly, think about the added nonsense of living in 2008, and if you were 18 ask yourself if after a long day you are trying to unravel Mos Def's Mathematics...or it you just want a hook and a baseline.
WWIN Asks For Power Hike - 7/15 - Radio One has applied with the Federal Communications Commission to double the power of its Baltimore area adult urban WWIN-FM, Magic 95.9, from 3,000-watts to 6,000-watts, and to change its city of license from Glen Burnie to Arbutus. No word about how that plan will be received by Fredericksburg's classic hits WGRQ or Hagerstown's classic hits WICL, both also on 95.9 FM, or DC's rival adult urban WHUR, not far away frequency-wise on 96.3 FM. Check out the proposal at fcc.gov.....
SOME of the black air personalities ar gonna be pushed out soon. They will be replaced by white and hispanic personalities. It's gonna sound just like the Boston station.

Service Broadcasting urban KKDA (K104)/Dallas has made some adjustments to its programming department and on-air lineup. MD/mixer DJ Steve Nice has exited, and urban AC clustermate KRNB APD/MD/midday personality Nate Quick will replace him as music director for now.
DJ Hollywood joins K104 from Liberman Latin rhythm KZZA (Casa 106.7)/Dallas and will absorb Steve Nice’s midday, afternoon, night and weekend mixing shifts. Service Broadcasting/Dallas OM Gary Saunders is also looking to add more mixers to the staff, and interested DJs should send their mixes to his attention at 621 N.W. 6th St., Grand Prairie, TX 75050.
K104 has found two other hires in the market: Weekend duo/sister act D'Lyte and Ebony recently became available and vacated their shifts at Radio One urban KBFB (97.9 the Beat) and are headed to K104.

I dont' like the new site!
That show I would surely drop.
The early 2000s brought us Michael Baisden.
He was a real craze then.
Now, just like Steve Harvey, that show is a real mess.
But Tom Joyner, that guy was first and remains simply the BEST!!
What is really going on????
If you are starving and someone brings you crackers you are going to think this is the best thing you have ever tasted because..... you hungry. Same thing with these syndicated products, we the listeners are starving for different music on the radio so if someone is not playing the same 7 songs and breaking all the on air rules, doing what ever they want, then as a listener you are thinking, you are listening to some cutting edge presentation. When in reality it's just the same ole crackers.................................
Hate will always be here, but don't let it cause amnesia. Most of you, as I surely do weekly, have bad shows. Some of you will have one tomorrow because your on this site, so much. But just remember your so-called "flop" shows, while you trounce everbody else.

CBS Could Unload Baltimore Cluster - 8/1 - Yesterday, DCRTV told you that CBS Radio announced that it'll be selling about 50 "mid-market" radio stations in the near-term. Today, radio trade pub All Access tells us that at least four CBS stations in Baltimore are on an unofficial list of "likely" properties to be unloaded. Including adult contemporary WLIF (101.9 FM), hot adult contemporary WWMX (106.5 FM), classic hits WQSR (102.7 FM), and talker WHFS (105.7 FM). No mention of CBS sports talker WJFK-AM (1300). Baltimore is the 21st radio market in terms of size. CBS's five DC market radio stations - WPGC-FM/AM, WTGB, WLZL, and WJFK-FM - were not on the unofficial list of spin-off candidates. DCRTV hears that if CBS does sell its Baltimore FMers, Clear Channel could be a likely candidate to pick up some of them, to add to its cluster of WCAO, WPOC, and WCHH. Other potential CBS Charm City suitors: Greater Media moving down from Philadelphia, Nassau moving eastward from Frederick/Hagerstown, Bonneville or Red Zebra moving up from DC, maybe Entercom.....
P.S. Why would Radio One put him on the air that dude cant even talk.

According to Radioandrecords.com, Monday (August 4th) was the last day the radio veteran, born Tarsha Jones, spent on the Radio One urban outlet for 100.3 the Beat. Miss Jones and her entire morning entourage were replaced by an all music morning show, “The Morning Beat.”
Jones worked at 100.3 while still at Hot 97. It is uncertain the cause of the change or the duration of the music-driven mornings on 100.3 the Beat.
In related news, Jonesy has a reality show set to debut on BET.

Please confirm! Wendy was on the Ed Lover show a few weeks ago and she sounded good on Power.
Could NYC staple Wendy Williams be next in line to receive her pink slip? According to a shocking new rumor the Queen of All Media might possibly be done at WBLS.
Theybf.com is reporting that resident loud mouth Wendy Williams is about to be out the door at one of the few all black owned radio stations still left in existence. Apparently WBLS isn't too happy with her alleged poor ratings, her looming legal matters with Talent Booker, Nicole Spence and some other lingering unresolved matters.
However, SOHH Ya Heard can exclusively confirm that Wendy Williams has in fact been suspended, but NOT for what theybf.com is reporting. Sources close to The Wendy Williams Experience is telling me that her suspension stems from a change in management. Apparently the new Program Director, Skip Dillard, isn't getting along too well with Mrs. Wendy.
From what I'm being told The Experience's popular bonus hour was canceled for what the station is calling weak performance and low ratings which prompted Wendy to be extremely vocal in her disapproval of the decision. That's when Skip [I hear] decided to exercise his authority and took it upon himself to suspend the fiery radio personality. But get this; he suspended her on her days off.
Apparently Mrs. Wendy had already requested August 15-19th off for a brief vacation. SOHH it seems that the decision to suspend her is reminiscent of the popular comedy "Friday" where Craig [played by Ice Cube] got fired on his day off.
As far as The Wendy Williams Experience being canceled in 2009, my source couldn't predict the future, but assures me that no matter what WBLS decides to do with the popular on air talent their are plenty of options for the Queen.
From book deals to her hit daytime television show, it's assured that Mrs. Wendy is still going to be eating well for years to come.

Proving her brand can be as successful on TV as it is on radio, Wendy Williams' daily TV Talk program, “The Wendy Williams Show” is headed for broader TV distribution. Following a successful multi-week preview on Fox Television owned-and-operated stations in four markets, Fox announced plans Monday (Aug. 18) to clear the Debmar-Mercury program in mid-2009 on stations in all 18 of its markets.
The Fox-owned stations in New York (WNYW), Los Angeles (KTTV), Dallas (KDFW) and Detroit (WJBK) began airing the one-hour “The Wendy Williams Show” on July 14. The six-week run will conclude Aug. 22.
According to Fox, the program posted rating increases in key demos during the May sweeps in both New York and Los Angeles. "Everything about the ‘Wendy’ preview clicked for our stations, from conception to promotion to hitting the air. It completely broke the mold. The show is now a proven winner, and we can't wait to see it debut across the country next year," said Frank Cicha, senior VP of programming for Fox Television Stations.
Williams' TV show is broadcast from New York, which is also the originating market for her four-hour syndicated radio show, launched Feb. 4 by Westwood One through a programming partnership with Inner City Broadcasting.

Rapper Da Brat was sentenced to three years behind bars, seven years of probation and 200 hours of community service Friday morning (August 22) for striking a woman in the face with a rum bottle. The October 2007 incident at an Atlanta-area nightclub left the victim's face permanently scarred.
According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Gail Flake handed down the punishment, while about six members of the rapper's family quietly wept inside the courtroom. Da Brat (born Shawntae Harris) told her relatives "I love y'all" as she was led out of the courtroom by sheriff's deputies. "We love you too," they replied.
Harris had pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault, a charge stemming from a serious physical altercation that happened last Halloween during a party at Jermaine Dupri's Studio 72 nightclub just outside Atlanta. According to reports, Da Brat got into a heated confrontation with one of the club's waitresses and was accused of striking the woman in the face with a bottle of rum, causing numerous cuts on her face.
The waitress was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said the Halloween attack wasn't the first time Da Brat and the victim were involved in a physical altercation.
This is also not Da Brat's first brush with the law. In 2000 she faced charges that she beat a woman with a gun during a dispute over VIP seating in a Buckhead, Georgia, nightclub. The victim in that incident received six stitches for a head wound. That case did not make it to trial, however. Instead, in 2001 the rapper agreed to perform 80 hours of community service, serve a year's probation and pay a $1,000 fine after pleading guilty to misdemeanor reckless conduct.

P-Stew Gone From From KYS, RO Cuts 7 More Here, Lots Elsewhere - 8/29 - DCRTV hears that P-Stew has been released from his duties as music director and creative services director of Radio One urban outlet WKYS (93.9 FM). We're told that he was among eight employees just budget-cut at Radio One's Lanham broadcast complex, which also powers WMMJ, WOL, WYCB, and WPRS. P-Stew has been with KYS for more than 13 years, begining with the "Live Squad," and eventually moving up to the music director and assistant program director gigs. He's also hosted the "One Nation Hip Hop Show" on Saturday nights. P-Stew is currently nominated by trade pub Radio And Records as "Urban Music Director Of The Year." No word yet if the "One Nation Hip Hop Show" will still be heard on KYS with a new host. DCRTV also hears that locally-based Radio One, which is facing slumping revenue numbers and record low stock prices, made employee cuts in other markets, including canning 20 at its Atlanta cluster. Plus more cuts in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Philadelphia.....

ps - i am in PA and i love that the web lets me listen to other markets and learn. great for picking up tips and hearing new talent. use the vent to grow and not hate.
Do not post in all caps- that is considered shouting on the web.
Urban Insite reserves the right to remove any post that we deem to be inappropriate. We urge everyone to post in a professional and responsible manner.
Then change the title to the forum. Venting is to say what you really want to say in anonymity. Its kind of therapeutic. Whatever happened to freedom of speech?
Anyway, its apparent that some radio company REALLY got mad at you guys for letting people speak their mind. So, that being said, who want to post here anymore? Thank GOD for blogs.
Just one question, Who owns this site? The creators or the companies who can put up major threats or even big money to regulate whats being said here? Think very hard on that one.
Radio is dead. Money killed it. Ironic huh? There's no need for REAL radio DJ's when you can put Monique on the air now simply because she's a famous comedienne? All you have to do is cut some people to pay her, give your top peeps a raise and chill. Its simple.
Atlanta...And believe me you , CBS ain't gonna try to fix it , if it ain't
broke.(Frank and Wanda)..I truly believe that change was enevitable

Well, that was the most "We are the World" b* speech that I have heard in years.
Love and prayers to you Olivia, we love you!!
Those days and long gone and you and the rest of radio need to let go and move on it's great to look back and think of the "great ole days" but radio has move past that and on to "bigger and better?????" anyways we all miss that and everything above and below the table with radio but once again those days are gone and either you get with the new program or get on!
I just got back in to radio after a long break and trust me it's a new world and the standards we all used to hold ourselves to has all but gone out the door.

it was played too much and now its over.
there will be Obama egg over alot of nigros faces for hyping someone who deserved no hype.
Obama will be offered a radio one morning deal , he'll never be president, dumb azz'
I remember all the vents on here how Obama will do this and that, how he is this. Obama is done, the hype is over.
Theres going to be some crushed nigros come nov 4, I hope yall dont jump off the bridge. You just let the corporate media control your thinking and make you believe that Obama would win. If you thought for your self and did your research you would of found out that Obama has done nothing but theatrics.
Theres alot of nigros that speak well and say nothing like him. There in every city. Hes not special, he was just hyped. And alittle lucky.
So take your Obama t shirts and put them in the closet with the Tupac shirl and your X hat. You have been duped again dumb azz nigros
Thanks for your comment but you better hope Obama wins or the US will be heading toward some very dark years- can you say war with Iran, Russia, maybe even China. Can you say the end of a super power? Can you say countries started to gang up on the US? If you think McCain is any better than you are wrong and as Palin says we will go to war with Russia if needed. Well buddy that is nuclear war.
Politicians are politicians but its best to vote the less of two evils. Forget that Obama is black. That doesn't matter this election year (or it shouldn't matter). This is about the future of America and our kids and our kids' kids. Do you want your son and daughter to fight an unjust war or unjust wars so that other people can profit? I don't.
People better pray that Obama wins.
Now, back to radio. Oh! Yeah, I forgot, this is radio. Radio is to be responsible to the community which it serves.
who would you rather vote for, a 80 year old man who can barely hold a microphone, with the governor of ALASKA as his running mate. Or a man who has carisma, offers hope and has the ability to unite hundreds of millions of people across the globe?
. . . . . what part of the South are you from? .. . . . you know we're free right!
Obama is not the one, dispite all his positive press. He's a Nigro being pushed by people not of the black community.
Obama has done nothing to make me vote for him. He has sold out Tavis, Rev Wright, Jesse, Min Farakhan, doesnt have Rev Sharpton invovled. Who is behind this Nigro. Its not anyone who has any record of being for black people, and you cant name anyone.
Obama is using the black community, tricking us into believing that hes our boy, hes our Mandela, Malcolm, our Martin Luther King, while he hasnt done a damn thing.
This isnt about self hate on this vent, its about being aware, reseaching , and reading unfiltered information.
I dont jump on bandwagons unless justified, and the Obama bandwagon aint worth jumpin' on.
Even Rev. Sharpton on radio show says that he understands what Obama must do and what we must do if we are to get are agendas looked at like the the other communities & advocates.
Whether Obama will be a good President I don't know. Right now he and McCain are the only ones that most americans will hear about and vote for. I rather take a chance on Obama. I made it 8 years with the Repubs and I cannot take another four years of them.

PPMs Come To DC - 9/18 - Those controversial electronic Portable People Meters are being debuted by radio ratings firm Arbitron across the DC market today. The first preliminary PPM data should be available by November, we're told. Columbia MD-based Arbitron is gradually shifting the nation's major markets away from the old written diary-based ratings system. Carried by the listener, the cell phone-sized PPM device automatically senses what stations are being tuned-in. The new system has been criticized for deflating the ratings of African American and Hispanic-oriented radio stations. And it remains to be seen whether urbans WKYS, WPGC-FM, WMMJ, and WHUR will remain at the top of the DC radio heap in the PPM numbers. Stay tuned.....

Allowing another man to fuck you in the ass to the top, like many others sends the wrong message, and it also stagnates real aspiring jocks/ real talent from becoming a jock!!!! You are the laughing stock right now by the FEW people who tapped in on your show (jocks, listeners, etc.)
But I would like to address the false claims you stated. One, don't ever compare me to R. Kelly because I don't like the sick, retarded bastard either. Never would I do anything in appropriate with a teen, child or anyone under the age of 18. Really 20 for that matter. Secondly wtf this got to do with hiphop, lol... Anyway, for those that don't know there is this thing called star power, and some radio personalities have it, I admit very few, but some do... I really shouldn't even address this bs, but sometimes it's ok to give two sides to a story... There are occasions where DJ Frosty does a small tad bit of flirting but when I do the listener is over the age of 21 and never do I initiate it, it just sometimes I may get caught up in the moment lol. I get a lot of love in my city, and that's what is important to me. All yall personalities that are just good for reading liners, you're the reason syndication is taking over. I could go into all my accolades but that would just look like I'm bragging. If you want to put up your aircheck vs mine lets go... Holla at me
I am leaving yall with something I like to call my Summer 2008 Female listener highlight reel. That way you can decide for yourselves.. BTW vote for me at SouthernEntAwards.com for Radio DJ of the year and Male radio Personality of the year.

oh and Gawga boy, you can get any radio mixer in Atlanta and put one of their mixes vs. mine and we can let the urbaninsite community decide that battle. That's hiphop. Anytime.

CBS Generates Batch Of Radio Bidders In Balto - 9/29 - Regarding the bids last week for the five CBS Radio stations in Baltimore, which are for-sale. DCRTV hears that several are "new to the region." Could that mean Emmis or Entercom? However, our top radio gurus still expect WTOP-owner Bonneville to go after Charm City's 101.9 and maybe 102.7. One guru tells us: "There are no doubt a few good people left at CBS Baltimore. I feel sorry for those poor bastards... Believe it or not, most suits still have a touch of humanity about themselves. It hurts to have to tell people they are now jobless because of the economy or trimming costs before a sale. And, of course, you can't tell them that part." As for Bonneville buying in Baltimore. We're told that the firm "is itching to build another sports talker (it just announced one in St. Louis) and an oldies powerhouse somewhere. Baltimore would be ripe for either".....

BLAZIN 102.3 - Tallahassee
Both seem to be energetic Urban stations, especially on the weekends. I hate that I couldn't say HOT 107.9 here in ATL.
Radio/TV One family, and they openly show their support for Obama. I hope she has a very good attorney, she deserves an apology as well as get her job back! I know the end result will come back around to work in HER favor and there won't be anything anyone can say or do about it!
Today is the deadline to register to vote and there is still time to get the last remaining tickets to Jay-Z’s “Last Chance for Change” Voter Registration concert today in Miami!

Thoughts?
Keeping things local late at night seems odd, but only thanks to heavy use of voicetracking, satellite programming, and automation. It could be worth it leave these slots open for local talent to grow their chops. They could very well grow an audience, and/or earn a daytime slot. At the very least, it be an excuse to bring back the late night relationship program.
I could be wrong, but I'm predicting a time when you might have 'urban music' stations morph into 'urban lifestyle' stations. You're going to need compelling personalities more than you need the hottest tracks of the day, as radio will lose out on being the first or default medium for music. You might even see a real news presence return, somewhat.
This is why I've been playing with my idea for a talk based station.
Bloodbath Coming To XM? - 10/14 - DCRTV hears that as many as 75 employees in music programming at XM Satellite Radio could be getting budget cut soon. And they're discovering their fate via a human resources computer glitch. We're told: "People were finding out their last day by logging into the payroll system and under the benefits page it would list their last day... Great way to end a 10-year gig in radio. Great way!" The end-date listed for many: 10/15. DCRTV has told you that big cuts are coming to DC-based XM now that its merger with NYC-based Sirius is almost complete. More soon.....

away @ Barack Obama's character. and do all they can to keep a
Black man out of office.....Black radio stands by with no on
air presence in Baracks quest to be Prez.....Business as usual for
Black radio.......If it were'nt for sydication the hype would be non-
existant,(Ballintine,Sharpton & Baisden) Radio One Is doing a good
job in that regard......But we need to be doing more because telling
listeners to vote is not enough.......Black radio afraid to push the
envelope on this one....it's music , Tsl , cume and bottom line as
usual.......................Kinda Sad
Seriously...however we need to do it, we need to keep the momentum going!
I live in Cali and am amazed how many White people would rather do poorly with a White president than do BETTER with a Black president.
The game ain't over til Obama gets the game ball! We shouldn't take his victory for granted. I'm sending in my vote-by-mail ballot AS SOON as it arrives.
No one is focused on Obama because everyone is concerned about their job security which pretty much is non existent anyways these days. If you want to pull more attention to the elections start hitting up these jocks websites, myspace/facebook or even blackplanet pages...go to a message board and start to make some noise, whatever you can to produce a reaction.
If black radio can lay off of the nonsense such as baby mama drama features, doing characters on the radio, pointless industry gossip then maybe some focus can be given to a brotha who's been our our legitimate contender for the presidency in almost two decades.
Stations shouldnt just leave the effort in the hands of their News/Community Affairs persons because you're not doing your job as station for the community if you're not pushing this election, make deals with your advertisers in your promotions to listeners...
But at the end of the day Obama's Camp never needed black radio for anything but playing their ads because black radio never provided anything else besides that really...it's extremely sad that the largest minority owned media mediums, Radio One or even BET didnt push for this man.....another day another dollar...
The last two days we focused on early voting and literally suspended most of our programming to have leaders and community folks come in and pump it up. RECORD NUMBERS for early voting in NC! As Pastor Troy would say, "WE READY!"

Listen to how your fellow Americans think:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehbJ8-mRbPg
Would they be smart to just sell off their radio division, maybe but then you wouldnt call them Radio One anymore, lol. How about just syndicate their entire division, would that save them money, maybe and with their Syndication One arm that would be a possibilty. Also think about the salaries and benefits that they offer their jocks, if you are willing to work for pennies then Radio One will hire you (hint, hint, anyone who just got let go with the Sirius/XM bloodbath).
Lets also think about the fact that sales are hurting with the economy. If I were a business owner (this excludes nightclubs) I would invest my money into building up my business's interactive brand. What that means is creating your own website, hit up myspace, facebook, etc. Most P1 listeners have internet access and there are plenty of ways to market to them.
Now we all could be wrong about good ol RO and maybe with the next president a resurrection would infuse the radio industry which still surprises me that RO doesnt lead the way in coverage.
Would Cathy and Alfred be willing to cash out to a giant like Bob Johnson did when he sold BET to Viacom? Any way you look at it, a buyout would include a nice "golden parachute" for them and some of the top execs like Barry Mayo, Jay Stevens and others.
I'm looking forward to read others thoughts on this...
Citadel Crunch Coming - 10/20 - From News Blues: "Next up on the ever-lengthening list of broadcasting conglomerates in serious financial doo-doo: Las Vegas-based Citadel Broadcasting, the nation's third-largest radio group with 165 FM stations and 58 AM stations, is now trading at 20 cents a share. Citadel owns and operates ABC Radio Networks, which creates and distributes programming to more than 4,000 affiliates." Citadel also owns WMAL, WRQX, and WJZW.....

I am surprised that they did'nt let go of that ameture sounding night show The Nut House who's breaks are 3 minutes to long & has more than 5 thoughts per break is'nt that like radio 101???
Not to mention there boaring ass mix shows, we need some Oboma like change down here. I love radio but damn is'nt Tampa a major market. Who programs this station?? Are they def or just out of touch like John McCain. Tune in and get yourself some laughs 98.7 WLLD Tampa
But no need for a format change that is not in your power, but the things you can change you should consider because there is way to much talent in your market to have like 10 MIX SHOW DJ'S WHO ALL SUCK, & A NIGHT SHOW
THAT IS EXTREMELY CRIPPLE.
So as the PD & The Leed Morning Show Host of 98.7 WLLD you should just admit that your Night Show sucks and change it .
Tampa has come so far since the days of Mad Linx at 88.5 or having to resort to listening to 93.3 WFLZ for a taste of Hip Hop wich was completly watered down during the late 90's.
So to hear what is now becoming of Tampa on your watch proves that someone is out of touch like "John McCain". Are'nt you from New York? So you should no better than to allow such foolery on your air waves...
And by the way your staff will never hear about this conversation because they dont even know what urban Insite is.... So that tells me alot about thier Radio Experience, yes all the people you hired....
JUST HIRE SOME NEW TALENT WITH A REAL SOME EXPERIENCE.

The Norwegian newspaper VG has reported a truly amazing story about a newly-wed trying to get to Norway to be with her husband, and the stranger who helped pay an unexpected luggage surcharge. The blog "Leisha's Random Thoughts" has translated the story.
It was 1988, and Mary Andersen was at the Miami airport checking in for a long flight to Norway to be with her husband when the airline representative informed her that she wouldn't be able to check her luggage without paying a 100 surcharge:
When it wa s finally Mary's turn, she got the message that would crush her bubbling feeling of happiness.
-You'll have to pay a 103 dollar surcharge if you want to bring both those suitcases to Norway, the man behind the counter said.
Mary had no money. Her new husband had travelled ahead of her to Norway, and she had no one else to call.
-I was completely desperate and tried to think which of my things I could manage without. But I had already made such a careful selection of my most prized possessions, says Mary.
As tears streamed down her face, she heard a "gentle and friendly voice" behind her saying, "That's okay, I'll pay for her."
Mary turned around to see a tall man whom she had never seen before.
-He had a gentle and kind voice that was still firm and decisive. The first thing I thought was, Who is this man?
Although this happened 20 years ago, Mary still remembers the authority that radiated from the man.
-He was nicely dressed, f a shionably dressed with brown leather shoes, a cotton shirt open at the throat and khaki pants, says Mary.
She was thrilled to be able to bring both her suitcases to Norway and assured the stranger that he would get his money back. The man wrote his name and address on a piece of paper that he gave to Mary. She thanked him repeatedly. When she finally walked off towards the security checkpoint, he waved goodbye to her.
Who was the man?
Barack Obama.
Twenty years later, she is thrilled that the friendly stranger at the airport may be the next President and has voted for him already and donated 100 dollars to his campaign:
-He was my knight in shining armor, says Mary, smiling.
She paid the 103 dollars back to Obama the day after she arrived in Norway. At that time he had just finished his job as a poorly paid community worker* in Chicago, and had started his law studies at prestigious Harvard university.
Mary even convinced her paren ts to vote for him:
In the spring of 2006 Mary's parents had heard that Obama was considering a run for president, but that he had still not decided. They chose to write a letter in which they told him that he would receive their votes. At the same time, they thanked Obama for helping their daughter 18 years earlier.
And Obama replied:
In a letter to Mary's parents dated May 4th, 2006 and stamped 'United States Senate, Washington DC', Barack Obama writes:
'I want to thank you for the lovely things you wrote about me and for reminding me of what happened at Miami airport. I'm happy I could help back then, and I'm delighted to hear that your daughter is happy in Norway. Please send her my best wishes. Sincerely, Barack Obama , United States Senator'.
The parents sent the letter on to Mary.
Mary says that when her friends and associates talk about the election, especially when race relations is the heated subject, she relates the story of the k ind man who helped out a stranger-in-need over twenty years ago, years before he had even thought about running for high office.
Truly a wonderful story, and something that needs to be passed along in the maelstorm of fear-and-smear politics we are being subjected to right now.
UPDATE: Thanks for the recommends, folks! Also, remember this was 1988, when 100 dollars was quite a bit of money, compared to today's value.
volumes about Barack Obama's character..He's a great guy and
with all the country is going through , I predict that he will be just as
good a Commander in Chief as Bill Clinton was , or
better..................OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT....JUST 10 MORE DAYS..

His lawyer, PAUL MISHKIN, told the BOSTON GLOBE that HOPKINS is cooperating with police and "hasn't made any efforts to avoid prosecution."

PGC Plunges In PPMs - 11/11 - More preliminary raw data from those new Portable People Meter electronic ratings for DC. Comparing the overall October monthly numbers with a week from early November (actually late October, we're told), age 12+, full-week, we find urban WPGC-FM, normally a top five ranker under the old diary method, plunging from 7th to 15th place, to tie with CBS sister classic rocker WTGB, which jumped from 18th. All-newser WTOP increased its 1st place lead from October, with news talker WAMU down a bit, but still in 2nd. Adult contemporary WASH stayed in 3rd, ditto for contemporary WIHT in 4th and urban adult in WHUR 5th, with hot adult WRQX up from 8th to 6th. Adult urban WMMJ, another usual top five finisher in the diaries, was up from 10th to 7th, tied with Christian contemporary WGTS, way up from 12th. Rocker WWDC jumped from 10th to 9th, while urban WKYS was down from 6th to 10th, with classical WETA sliding from 8th to 11th. Gospel WPRS rose from 13th to 12th, country WMZQ was up from 15th to 13th, to tie with talker WMAL. Classic hits WBIG slid from 15th to 17th, with oldies WJZW up to 18th from 19th. Talker WJFK and Spanish contemporary WLZL were tied at 19th. Sports talk WTEM placed 21st, down from 17th.....
Maybe he can do something about some of the inconsistent programming. Also, maybe he can make the Guy Black show sound better.
In the meantime I have written up some 10 New Rules that need to go in effect. I have more than 10 but I figured I would lay them out 10 at a time to start with. You don't necessarily have to follow them but I would appreciate it if you did. Atleast acknowledge that you are familiar with them and be ready for pop quizzes. They apply to all facets of our lives now that we have a Black President.
#######
10.
Play how you practice.
It's game time. Watch the clock. We scored off the tip but its only the beginning of the game. Cut to the basket. Move without the ball. Hit the open man. Don't pick up your dribble. Follow your shot. Get back on D. Set screens. These basketball references should be self-explanatory. I could have picked any sport but since my man Obizzle plays hoops, I figured it was more appropriate. What I mean is just because our team got the first pick doesn't mean that we are going to the championship overnight. Look at Cleveland. We still gotta play hard and step our game up. We have to Sam Cassell and PJ Brown it. We still have to grind it out and play as a team to bring home multiple victories on the way to being consistent champions. We have to re-value our communities. Re-value education and literacy. Re-value family. Re-value working hard regardless of the outcome. Re-value bigger fitting jeans. That's how we win!
9.
Stay Sharp.
Racism is not over. Inherent biases and bigotry are not over. Although some states even went so far as to abolish affirmative action, don't believe the hype that 'because America elected Barack, she can no longer be racist,' and, 'white guilt is dead.' Some well intending caucasians have already thrown this one around as if to say that one is connected to the other. That is a bunch of cock-n-bull. Barack's election was and should by no means be seen as an appeasement or a pay off. Gimme a break. You can't just try to duck out on and dismiss a conversation you were never willing to have. You might see Barry walking down the street and you might run to get a picture with him but if you see me walking down the street with a ski mask and holding a lead pipe you would be quick to clutch your purse! And that's downright racist! Seriously though, we still have a long way to go and this open and honest dialogue must continue. And I'mma personally still play the race card whenever applicable. Dig it, if we playing spades and you always leading with trump (i.e. this is a metaphor for having a conversation with a McCainer who thinks that racism is dead now that Barack is prezzy), I'mma know that you don't have many Spades. Soon as you run out I'mma expose your hand and start running books on you! Thank God that there is a whole generation of voting age Americans who never really had to experience the blatant hate associated with bigotry. Even better there is a whole new generation who will come of age during this time. Talk about building a new self-esteem for a whole class of people.
8.
Be considerate.
I would ask you not to communicate with me when my President is speaking. If he is making an appearance somewhere or speaking on television, or on radio, or in public, I would like for you to be quiet. I want to hear what he has to say everytime he has something to say. I will tell you that you are being rude and I will shoosh you. Yes I will. Even if I'm in the bank, or somewhere where there is a TV on. That's my President and you do not speak when he is speaking. Now you've officially been c h o p p e d & s c r e w e d.
7.
Go with the flow.
We are experiencing a shift in consciouness. Some of us are. Your thoughts precede your actions, so as your mentality changes, so your actions change too. Endeavor to keep this momentum going. Never before have we been this involved in politics. Never before have you paid this much attention to Wolf Blitzer and did this much research. Never before has it meant this much to you. Why stop here? I say keep it going. Stay active. Stay involved. You are now a citizen again. You participated in the process and it was actually kinda fun. You were a part of history! Don't stop there. Make history every day by being an agent of change in some way shape or form. I was at the bar at the Chilli's near Crenshaw and Century blvds the other day and overhaeard two gangsters talkin about how they donated to presidential campaigns for the first time in their lives. "Homie my daughter even had me write a check for her for 15 dollars, after she seen me give a hundred, you feel me? That was her whole allowance cuhhhhh!" [Re-read that sentence with your best West coast accent for best effect.] They were even arguing with each other about which was more important, popular votes or electoral votes--to the point where I thought they was gon' shoot the place up. Man I was so proud. Now that's a shootout you can be proud of. 'It's the principality of it, Smokey!'
6.
Let me hold sumn'.
Am I my brother's keeper? You damn right you are. Times is tight. I know when Barack speaks about change, he doesn't mean the kind in your pocket, but this economy is rough. The man said 'spread the wealth around,' so when I come around asking to borrow (or borry as my mom says) some money, don't you go getting all tight-lipped and slack-jawed on me all of a sudden. Oh, so you can hit me over the head about the campaign but I can't ask to get a lil bit of money up off you?! I see how you are. On election night we was all family, but now when I ask you for a loose dub, you don't know me?!?
5.
Demand excellence.
I'mma start holding folk accountable for everything they do now. A Black man in the White House is now my measure of excellence. Anything that you do that falls short of that achievement is subject to me putting you on front street. If I am out somewhere having a meal and the server spills a drink on me I'mma be like, "Oh so this is how you gon' do me? We got a Black President and this is what you do?" Your co-worker shows up to the staff meeting late , you tell them, "Is this how you gon' act? We get a Black President and this is what you do?" When one of your roommates leaves a swallow of milk in the fridge but there is a full box of the good cereal in the cupboard, you tell them, "So you just refuse to do right, huh? A Black man gotta be mayor of the moon before you get your shyt together I guess. He gotta win an Oscar, a Hoodie, and 8 gold medals before you replace the milk!?!"
4.
Pull up...
3.
...your damn...
2.
...pants.
Unless you are in a gang by profession where you are actively smashin' on foes on sight as a 9-5, or unless you really don't own a belt because you are 20 years old and the 2nd grade reading program you are in doesn't allow you to have one, or unless you are in prison and they dont allow you to have one, or unless you voted No on prop8 for personal reasons, or unless you just are in to man-luv, or unless you are one nem 'ignorant is the new cool' type cats, or unless you one nem 'metro is the new hetero' type cats--then raise trou! Obeezy even said it on MTV the day before the election during his interview with Sway. He was like "c'mon brothers pull your pants up, show a little respect for yourselves and the people around you."
I'm all for style, and swag, and rebelling, and bucking the system, and 'doing you,' but c'mon man I'm tired seeing clowns in 200$ reverse thigh-highs. You might as well have on chaps with your ass out. You might as well have on denim leg warmers and a unitard onesy. I ain't hatin,' I'm just sayin'. Well, it might be hate, but isn't that something worth hating on if Brobama doesn't even feel it either?!
1.
Respect your president.
For the last eight years since W stole the 2000 election, I have been hearing the same song and dance from Bush supporters, and 'the like,' about how "no matter what you say, he is the president and you have to respect him!" For a time, dissenters, and people like myself who objected to him being selected as president, were branded as un-American and un-patriotic. I can even remember being told, "If you don't like it, you are free to leave." I thought that that was so disrespectful. I also found it ironic, seeing as though this country was founded on opposition, dissent, and freedom of speech. Nevertheless, today I get to return the sentiment. So to those classless, bitter, and un-patriotic rally goers in Phoenix who on the night of the election attended the party for the losing party. To those cute little bigots in small-town Pennsylvania whose Youtube video I have watcheed atleast 100 times already. To Joe the plumber. To everybody at Sly Fox News. To everybody else that took part in perpetuating the negativity that made the 2008 campaign one of the dirtiest in U.S. history. I say to you this, "Barack Obama is your president and you have to respect him! If you don't like it you are free to leave!" LOL
I'll see ya'll at the inauguration. I'mma be down there selling everything from Barack O-bobbleheads, to Barrier (Perrier) Water, to Baby Barack Ribs! You already know.

We Love U Jack - 11/18 - A DCRTV spy on Jenifer Street tells us that Mix 107.3 morning man Jack Diamond (right) was heard ranting about a certain website today. Something about how this site is "mean-spirited" by not mentioning that his WRQX show was in 2nd place in morning drive in the new Portable People Meter weekly ratings. He also allegedly said that all we, er, this particular site does is "diss people." According to the latest batch of weekly PPMs that we have, age 12+, morning drive, Jack's show is in 3rd place, which is damn good. Behind only 1st place WTOP and 2nd place WAMU, and ahead of 4th place Loo Katz on WASH, who was tied with Kane on Hot 99.5.....
FCCer Calls For PPM Probe - 11/19 - One of the two Democrats on the Federal Communications Commission is calling on the agency to investigate whether the new electronic Portable People Meter ratings system used by Columbia MD's Arbitron is unfairly harming minority broadcasters. FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein sent a letter Tuesday to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin urging the agency to open a formal investigation into the new system which relies on a pager-like device that automatically records what radio stations a person is listening to in order to measure radio station audiences. The PPM system was unveiled in the DC market in September, and it's shown big drops for urban stations like WPGC, WKYS, and WMMJ, as well as Spanish language WLZL. More from AP.....

I'm sure Citadel employees felt like going the extra mile and trying tobuild on that 20 Cent a share stock after recieving that email...
Now the worker bees can add that stress to the monumental stress that is being felt my our industry in this poor economy...
Deon Livingston is not a New Yorker and has never had any RESPECT for NY jocks or the heritage of NY radio or the heritage of WBLS. He's is a total a--whole.
BOYCOTT DEON LIVINGSTON AND WBLS!!!
It is truly a sad day in NY radio and it's even sadder that jocks that helped build NY radio are treated in this manner
This industry has NO respect for the elders of the game.
Vaughn and Champaine much LOVE and RESPECT to you. When one door closes another one opens.
I do believe when one door closes another one opens...FOOD NETWORK HERE I COME !!!!!!
I HOPE YOU SLEEP WELL AT NIGHT .
2. That's fowl what WBLS did the there staple jocks with great numbers.
Being Champaines sister I can tell you that she loved WBLS like a family and her "fans" loved her. WBLS...shame on you....you made a bad move. You should have kept the "tradition" and not followed the crowd!!
Now I will have to take WBLS off my presets because their is no reason to listen to them anymore.
Looking forward to hearing her at another station that knows good talent....
We will miss you Champaine!
Radio Down In '08, Bigger Slump For '09 - 12/3 - Chantilly-based BIA reports that the radio industry will see a negative 7 percent revenue "growth" rate this year, with ad revenues falling to $16.7 billion, the lowest level in five years. And, BIA expects an even greater decline in 2009, to $15 billion, before a possible rebound in 2010. Media biz financial watchdog BIA also notes that between January and October, some 641 stations were sold in transactions valued at $698 million, a 34 percent decline in the number of stations sold compared to the first 10 months of 2007, and a 44 percent decline in station value. Levels not seen since 1992. "The already low forecasts for growth in radio coupled with a generally dismal economic climate have also placed a particular strain on the valuations radio stations need to maintain their financing or to be sold," says BIA's Mark Fratrik. Radio is NOT dead...it is simply changing, and we have to keep up. That's what the conference was about. Integrating new technological advances and creating non traditional streams of revenue through these resources was discussed. It felt so good being around so many like-minded individuals. I recommend anyone in a position to attend next year, to do so.
Shout out to First Lady, Nina Chantele, Karen Vaughn, Kelly Mac and Sybil for representing for the women and embracing a sense of sisterhood in what we are doing. Much love to Windsor and Rick Party for putting it together...the entire weekend was great!

Enjoy, be blessed & Happy Holidayz 2 all!
I must admit i'm starting to like the Rickey Smiley Morning Show on HOT 107.9. Even though its syndicated, its funny and very upbeat in the mornings. I truely miss The A-Team Morning Show because they were crunk as hell and local. Of course anything is better than Frank & Wanda Morning Show at V-103. Jus my 2 cents!
Well that's waht Citadel just did...Effective immediately max vacation is 2 weeks or 10 days... That means if you've been there 15 years, ya get the same thing as somebody that's been there a year...Not bad you say in these tough times? Tell that to the long term employee who had made it to 3 or 4 weeks vacation a year based on the rules...It's one thing to mandate that 2 weeks is the max vacation for everyone, but another to take away that 15 year man/womans earned vacation time...
That type of thinking is another reason why anything you buy at the 99 Cent store cost the same price as 5 shares of Citadel Stock!
Beats unemployment.
CBS Trades QSR To CC - 12/15 - DCRTV hears that CBS has traded away Baltimore "Jack" classic hits outlet WQSR (102.7 FM) to Clear Channel in a radio swap deal that involves stations in Houston, Seattle, Portland OR, and Sacramento. DCRTV had previously reported that CBS had put its five Baltimore stations up for sale, and that WTOP-owner Bonneville was interested in picking up WQSR and WLIF. Clear Channel already owns three stations in Baltimore - two FMers, country WPOC and alt rocker WCHH, and an AMer, gospel WCAO. Clear Channel also owns five FMers in the DC market, plus an FM/AMer in Frederick.
Sirius XM To Re-Launch Classic Disco, Hip-Hop Channels - 12/16 - Sirius XM Satellite Radio plans to resurrect the disco/classic dance Strobe channel and "old school" hip-hop Backspin channel come 1/15. Also, "The Beat Morning Show" will launch on the BPM channel on the same date. It'll be hosted by former Beat programmer Geronimo, no relation to the longtime DC radio personality.....

LOS ANGELES - Michael Jackson’s official and sole spokesperson, Dr. Tohme Tohme, in response to recent rumors regarding Michael’s alleged medical condition, has issued the following statement: “Concerning this author’s allegations, we would hope in the future that legitimate media will not continue to be exploited by such an obvious attempt to promote this unauthorized ‘biography.’ The writer’s wild allegations concerning Mr. Jackson’s health are a total fabrication. Mr. Jackson is in fine health, and finalizing negotiations with a major entertainment company & television network for both a world tour and a series of specials and appearances.”
Seems he must be doing something right - he keeps getting bigger and better jobs - and you're on the vent talking about him.
We haven't talked in a minute but if you need anything and I can help let me know. Keep your head up!!!

Mark Mays
Just ahead of the upcoming CLEAR CHANNEL management meetings in DALLAS (1/6-1/8), CC CEO MARK MAYS sent out this letter to the company, which is steeped in reality, but gives an assessment and game plan for moving forward.
Good morning:
Beginnings are a gift. They are an opportunity to put past disappointments behind us. They are a chance to tap new resolve. They allow us the prospect for renewal.
As we head into 2009, we will need to take advantage of all of this and more.
There are two generations now in the workforce that have yet to feel the effects of a significant recession in their working lives. While there certainly have been recessions in specific business sectors over the past 20 years, what we are looking at in 2009 is broad, deep and sustained.
These types of recessions can be brutal things. They force tough decisions every day. The demand focus and clarity all the time. And they test our resolve ... regularly.
So what’s the best strategy for this environment? Well, it's three-fold.
1. Focus. Our ability to focus as a company and as individuals on our most productive priorities will define our success in 2009. Because focus is the ability to spot change -- whether a new opportunity or a potentially negative change in customer behaviors -- and respond to it rapidly. Focus is the ability to get the job done amidst the uncertainty and distraction that a recession can bring. And ultimately, focus gives us the opportunity to succeed when others fail.
2. Resilience. The next year may well see once-strong competitors disappear. Recessions also upend cherished ways of doing business. And as we've already seen throughout the industry, recessions drive change that is fast and hard. Through all of this, it will be the ability to see the glass half full -- to make the choice to focus on the opportunities instead of the losses -- to keep coming back until interest is converted into action, that will define the winners in 2009. We will face continued challenges in the new year -- and our ability to handle them with grace and resilience has never been more important.
3. Determination. This recession will beat many. There will be obstacles that competitors and colleagues alike will find insurmountable. That, simply, cannot be us. We have always been the company that leads our industries out of the difficulties. We have always been the company that outperforms the pack. In 2009, that same determination that has historically made us strong must sustain us again.
So as we celebrate this new beginning, please also know that you have the focus and resilience and determination of the entire executive team alongside you. You have the best resources in the industry at your disposal. You have the confidence and the support of everyone in this organization.
And you have my personal confidence that we will succeed together.
I've come to the realization that although we are not born "equal" as it relates to socio-economic status, we are born with the Equal Opportunity to CHOOSE our life's path, despite the bad decisions our parents may have made for us, despite any negative circumstances, we are given the CHOICE.
My first job in radio was only 16,000 per year! I took this pay because I believed in something bigger, and I knew my situation was only temporary...my CHOICE was to succeed. I understood that NO ONE or NOTHING could disrupt my destiny UNLESS I allowed it. I use to be afraid to step out and become an Entrepreneur, I didn't want to get out of my "comfort" zone, I resisted change...but like Charlemagne said, Change means Growth, and if you're not Growing, then you are Dying...
I am so thrilled to see such a positive and inspiring article on Urban Insite! I pray that we will all use our influence this year, to LIFT OUR people UP! And I hope that everyone is Optimistic about the change that is going to come...
It seems like the days of the local jock is gone.
Btw any news on Miss Jones she is missed

SO HILARIOUS, IT MUST HAVE BEEN CRAZY IN THERE, I KNOW JAY TEK, AND THERE ARENT TOO MANY PEOPLE WHO LOVE RADIO THE WAY THAT HE DOES. BESIDES I KNOW ALL ABOUT THE PERRY BROADCASTING COMPANY, AND YEAH JAMES, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM. DAMN JAY TEK, I TOLD YOU NOT TO JOIN THAT COMPANY, YOU ARE NOT THE FIRST TO BE A VICTIM OF THEIR LACK OF RADIO KNOWLEDGE. SOMEONE WILL HIRE YOU IN NO TIME, JUST WAIT AND SEE. LOUZANA STEEZY
Shot in the back and put out of commission like a wild pig, or a horse, or like a rabid dog, or a turkey.
Interesting. I guess we are all little skeptical about our levels of activism after rallying around Mychal Bell only to find out later that he wasn't worth the busfare to Jena, LA.
If after watching the video, you are not either queasy, irate, or queasy and irate and ready to suit up nationwide, then 1)something is really wrong and 2) Having a Black President don't really mean nuffin...

First time an Urban (Black) station rated #1 (numero uno) in Detroit Radio History !
As part of Columbia MD-based Arbitron's settlement with the attorneys general in New York and New Jersey, the radio ratings research firm will rework its electronic Portable People Meter system in both the NYC and Philadelphia market to better represent the listeners of African-American and Hispanic-oriented stations, which have suffered in the new measurement system. No word about such changes in the DC market, where the PPMs, in-use since in September, have depressed the ratings for urbans WHUR, WKYS, WPGC, WMMJ, and Spanish WLZL. Radio And Records has more.....
Here's my recommendation V-103 move Ryan Cameron to mornings with Wanda and Ms Sophia. Frank Ski would be good for the old school Sundays since he is more keen on that stuff but doesn't have a chance to play it during his show. Greg Street needs to go back to just doing weekends and have some new young, but coherent talent do nights (not Lil' Bankhead). Joyce Littel is good at what she does with the Quiet Storm, so KEEP HER.
Now musically, they need to mix it up for sure and actually play local artists both signed and unsigned. I can't understand for the life of me why they weren't one of the first stations in the nation to play Keri Hilson's music when she is from the ATL.
Appreciate all help it seems hard to land your first gig lol
TAZZ IS GONE FROM RICKEY SMILEY MORNING SHOW!
WHEN EXECUTIVE PRODUCER IS CUT 3 DAYS FROM XMAS....THAT MEANS THERE ARE PROBLEMS BIGGER THAN YOU KNOW. THE SHOW IS STRUGGLING. GOOD LUCK TAZZ DADDY!
============================================
Well, how ironic is this...three days before Xmas the exec producer is out the door and 3 days into the new year Rickey Smiley brings in more unclaimed favors from birmingham. Mickey Johnson (who ulitimately gave Smiley his start in Alabama) is now the new excutive producer for Rickeys show. I wonder if Johnson and Smiley will now take over the Birmingham market in Alabama? Flinstone you are correct in saying there are bigger problems than anyone knows. Let's just say Smiley should have left part of the Birmingham crew IN Birmingham.
I used to admire how strong she was and how intelligent her show was but with that ignorant, uneducated, disrespectful idiot Sixx on her show, it made me rethink how I perceived her.
I don't believe that anyone with any kind of true committment would allow someone so buffoonish to share the mic with them.
I guess being ignorant gets ratings and is more important than good broadcasting. I guess I can throw her in the "do not listen to" pile along with Wendy Williams, Star, Jonesy and Golden girl..sad
I need something that can be purchased at a reasonable price and used for Urban AC and/or Hip Hop.
Need contemporary work parts as well as sound effects...
Thanks for sharing
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Porsche Foxx was let go by V-103 in late November under mysterious circumstances.
Foxx — nee Stephanie Calhoun — called me back Thursday, caught me a bit by surprise. She did tell me she left V-103 amicably, that it had nothing to do with drugs or alcohol. She was a bit vague, though, on what actually happened.
She did say she discovered a lump in her left breast three weeks before she left V-103. She said she lacked “support” from the station management. That’s all she would say why she left her job seven months before her two-year contract was over. “I want to keep it positive,” she said. She will be having the benign lump taken out of her breast later this month.
Foxx said she has another job possibly coming down the pike but wouldn’t be specific what type of job it would be except we might hear her again somewhere.
She was at V-103 for several years til late 2004 when she got caught in a DUI, with pot possession. V-103 let her go in early 2005. She got a second shot at V-103 in mid-2007 after rehab and time to get her life together. Her ratings were solid as mid-day host so her departure was a bit odd.
I’m sure she’ll land somewhere else. She’s that popular. I was getting emails wondering about her virtually every day since her departure seven weeks ago. We’ll see where, once perhaps her six-month noncompete is over. (She still has four months to go on that front.)
There was great earning potential more than a decade ago for companies to start expanding outside of non-traditional revenue, but they moved too slow. When I think of all the possibilities and I WITNESS companies passing up on so many opportunities to save and GROW the Radio business, it really saddens me.
It is also sad, because I know so many young jocks, who are so passionate, who are talented and have so much ambition, and they're not even gonna get the opportunity to experience what its like to be a radio PERSONALITY...because nowadays, unless you're syndicated, the demand is for "Announcers"
At the same time, I am encouraged, because there is still time for people to get ONLINE. NOW is the time to get your INTERACTIVE game TIGHT.
Do you know how much money you can make, just off of a blog, or ning social networking site? In some cases, much more than what a company will pay you in a salary...
Anyone heard of "Necole Bitchie?" well, she was an INTERN at Hot 107.9 when I was there, now, she has one of the most visited celebrity blogs online, she is often referenced as a content provider for entertainment news and she has a BRAND...she OWNS it, she is in CONTROL, and NO ONE can pull her plug!!
PLEASE people, if you want to stay in the game, GROW...take the path of CHANGE, if you don't there will not be a place for you.
I hope this finds you well. My wife got up this morning and decided to write a letter to someone who needed an encouraging word. Not suprisingly, she asked me to read it to gain my perspective. I told her simply, that it was something that many people could benefit from.
We live and work in an unforgiving industry. Sometimes while jockeying for ratings, revenue, mic time or stardom, we tend to forget who is really running the show. It may come as a shock to some that God is bigger than any star, or CEO in radio could ever hope to be. I felt compelled to share this with my radio family. May it bless you as it has blessed me
When troubles come from every way, and you feel like there is no hope in sight, and you feel like there is no place to run to, I know a place.
If you think you have control over your life, you don't. Everything we do in this world will catch up to us. And if we do wrong, trouble will find us x3. Nothing will get better, it will only get worse. But I know a way out...
I don't know your relationship with God, I don't know if you pray everyday, it's none of my business. But I will tell you this: we are all going to die one day, and eternity is too long to be wrong.
The devil would like us to believe that it is too late for us. He wants us to believe that we have sinned too much for God to ever listen to us. But God says in Isaiah 59: “Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither is his ear heavy that he cannot hear...”
You don't have to go every Sunday to know God. He is with you all the time. He is even with you now. Talk to him. If you do it with an open heart, he will talk back. God is real. He is the beginning and the end. He gave you your talents, he gave you your family, and what he gives, he can take away.
All God wants us to do is to give our lives to him. He will give you ALL THE DESIRES OF YOUR HEART!.
He will cover you from all that could happen to you. He will save you from evil things. God forgives, all you have to do is ask. He forgives all of us from sin, it is never too late. NEVER!!!
he gives us what no man or woman can give us. He gives us PEACE, forever. You can't buy peace, you can't buy happiness.
I don't think I'm better than you. God put it on my heart to write this to you, so that you can know all of your options. God is the only way. He can keep you out of jail, the hospital, and the grave.
If you just give your soul to him, he will give you a better life. I pray for you, and I hope you pray for me because we all need it and God hears us all. I love you, and I hope that you receive this with an open heart.
Once God is shown to you, there is no turning back. You will always think of him, and you will be held accountable on the day that you die. Please talk to him. He will free you.
Not just in radio but in all forms of broadcast media. Clear Channel cuts are horrible. But can anyone believe the gall of Blair media and there CEO and what they did to the only Urban TV station . It is incredible and so totally illegal.
SOME SAY N.Y.C. OTHERS SAY ATL.........................
It's scary and it seems like no one cares.
My prayers go out to all that are going through
these tough times.
It has hit me as well but we fall down and we will get back up
only the strong survive and know that god is good
It may sound good now but how will it sound in a year after they have to keep playing the same songs over and over.
Foolish, foolish. Thank God for Lady B.
(But I agree, that fool Six should never embarass any station again. How did he even get a job. Is he sleeping with the boss?)
Trev Hollywood Launches Radioactive Productions
By Darnella Dunham
After departing Inner City urban AC WBLS/New York in November 2008 as a result of budget cuts, Trev Hollywood, former production director of “The Wendy Williams Experience,” has debuted “Radioactive Productions.” The full-service production company specializes in commercials and radio imaging, as well as music production for independent artists, mixtape DJs and television programs.
Trev Hollywood is CEO of Radioactive Productions, and Infinite G and Nelson “Big City” Alicea are his partners in the venture. "Radioactive was started as a means to fill a void in the production market,” says Hollywood. “A lot of companies constantly look for production experts to produce commercials for their events, products and services but are limited to production houses that concentrate on national production. Our 15-plus years of production experience make Radioactive an obvious choice for those who are looking for quality and professionalism, whether nationally or locally."
Radioactive Productions also aims to help introduce young people interested in production to the business, especially those from Hollywood’s hometown of Yonkers, N.Y. "We plan to implement a local youth recording technology program in Westchester in the near future,” explains Hollywood. “We want to give opportunities to youth who may not have the financial resources to get an education in this field. The kids from Yonkers see that I'm from the same housing projects that they're from. When they see me, they know that success is possible, and we would like to give those who desire an opportunity for success as well."
After spending several years in radio and the last five with “The Wendy Williams Experience,” Hollywood isn’t closing the door on returning. "Radio is definitely still an option for the future, but if we choose not to work for radio, radio will work for us," says Hollywood.

After them buying all those stations 12 years ago.
Putting all the station in one location in most cities.
Screwing good veteran radio people year in and year out.
Colonizing Urban radio, smooth jazz radio.
Trying to strong arm record labels, the concert business.
Look at you now Clear Channel. you just FUCKED 2000 employees!
You have ruined single handedly the whole radio industry, with your greed, your arrogance.
Look at you now, 2000 people hate you even more, what you stand for and what you are.
Your stations have no value, records arent selling, there are no record stores in most cities. Concerts are few, your Premiere syndication sucks.
Clear Channel is going to be left with 1200 stations that they cant afford to operate. Youll have no jocks, no programmers nothing.
LOOK AT YOU NOW CLEAR CHANNEL
Time to syndicate her. Still love you DC!
The craft of urban radio is truly in a decline in most areas and until corporate takes the chains off and allows MD's and PD's to experiment and try new things then you get the same washed down product.
I'll put this out there, for every syndicated personality there is a local version that's waiting for the opportunity to shine. Most urban stations started out with a local morning show, one that connected with the community. Now you can count with one hand anywhere in the country when it comes to Urban radio who you listen to in the morning; Russ, Rickey, Tom, Big Boy, Steve.
It's almost like jocks need to start to not even try join a corporate entity like RO, CC, Emmis, etc and should begin to all become independent contractors. Yes, you can work from home, get a board, mic, ISDN line and a pc and you too can become a voicetracker or produce syndicated shows. Market your products online and present PD's with a missing niche to their lineup.
Another round of CC cuts on the way, RO hiring freeze still is going on...it's a sad day in Urban radio...
Truly i'll put this question out there, if the economy recovers do you think radio will ever recover?
There are two and possibly three reasons why a station runs a syndicated show. 1. The corporate owners of the radio station owns the company that syndicates the show in question; 2. the syndicated show has a marqee host that the station is afraid the competition might pick up, or possibly 3 they are paying too much for a local team that does not deliver an audience large enough to justify their sallaries.
Nothing worth while is free. Syndication is no exception. It costs as much if not more to the local station as having a local show. If I had been allowed to field a team using the money we budgeted to run the syndicated shows on the station that I programmed, I could have fielded at team that payed hight dividends for less money.
The biggest problem is the pee brained local pd's that hand cuff local personalities and pigeon hole them into lack luster low-rated performances and then replace them with a syndicated show that they cannot controll where the personalities are allowed to entertain an audience. If talented local radio people were allowed to be radio people they would run circles arround the likes of (author) Michael Baisden and (commedian) Steve Harvey.
I'm no expert, but those are my thoughts.
God, I miss radio. But, thank God, I am smart enough to know that radio doesn't miss me. All I can do is continue to pray that those Wall-Street-driven companies loose soo much money/share that they are forced to sell back to the moms and pops at "forecloced-house" prices. Then maybe we can get our craft back!
Come on gang, remember where two or more agree....start prayin now!!!!
getting the radio jobs.
Where does this leave everyone else this is why I'm trying to do my own stuff these people don't care about you.
It's all business and all about the mighty $$$
Firefighters: Woman Suffered Burns To Arms
POSTED: 6:16 am EST February 3, 2009
UPDATED: 2:01 pm EST February 3, 2009
UNION CITY, Ga. -- Former radio personality Porsche Foxx is one of two people wanted for questioning in connection with a townhouse fire, authorities said.
The fire, which started around 2:30 a.m. off Flat Shoals Road in Union City, left an elderly woman with severe burns.
Fire investigators said Foxx, whose real name is Stephanie Calhoun, and another person, Tony Matthews, witnessed the fire, and investigators would like to talk with them.
The woman suffered burns to her arms, firefighters said. She was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The woman's name was not released.
Several other people in the home made it out safely.
Firefighters said they don’t know the cause, but are investigating the possibility of arson.
Wonder who the Perry's will fire next??? I'm watching
I also got a chance to listen to Elle Duncan on V-103 and congrats to her as well. She's a young personality getting a shot and that's always positive in these times.
Police are searching for former "V-103" WVEE personality Porsche Foxx in connection with in an early-morning fire that destroyed a suburban Atlanta home and injured one person. Foxx was fired by CBS Radio in 2004 following a DUI arrest, only to be rehired for a few months before being let go last November.
that would be old school effective radio at its fullest. why them? well they are the one left with radio gigs and can reach the masses.... just a thought.
Did he get laid off??

V-103 sounds slightly better in the overnights with the old school songs mixed in with the current stuff (circa 1991-2006 WPGC). Overall, their playlist still sucks badly because V-103 is too slow at adding new music compared to most other stations and their choices of songs leaves me very perplexed.
Hot107.9 is getting the PANTS "Beat" off them not only by V103 now, but also by "The Beat" since PPM started.
The Rickey Smiley Show isn't helping Hot either. Listeners all over the city are talking about how bad it is, and I hear Radio One is severely disappointed in the show's performance.
However, Rickey is still PAAAAAAID, dawg!
The new music switch up during middays will help - no rap, and the resident old school mix by Jaycee...prerecorded and bangin nonetheless - but music alone will not win this slot. Elle is lacking the poise, the knowledge and the talent that a seasoned veteran like Ramona Debreaux has, and everybody knows it. The reason that people are still talking about this weeks later is that choosing Elle for this position is just plain WRONG...so obvious...and laughably so. It feels like such an injustice...not only are industry folks bewildered and upset, so are the listeners. Long-lost Ryan listeners are rejoicing that Elle has moved on, and that it is now safe for them to start tuning into Ryan again, folks are vowing to switch to Kiss 104.1 or 107.5...or even the dreaded Rashan at Hot 107.9, rather than listen to Elle's whiny voice...meanwhile, salespeople at V are unwilling to put their accounts in Elle's inexperienced (and frankly, unappreciative) hands, and continue to seek Ramona out for their remotes and events. V does not want to lose her, she is far too valuable, and would only aid V's competition that is already gaining on and passing them up.
Keeping Ramona at middays (she covered for weeks after Porsche was finally let go for good) was a no-brainer. For the record, Ramona was let go from Hot 107.9 because they didn't want to pay the money they owed her, plus vacation time. She was part of a series of Radio One layoffs for those in midday slots, where they replaced their more expensive talent for cheaper knockoffs. After 10 years of full-time PLUS at R1, Ramona needed a break, and when the time came, she CHOSE part-time at V rather than full-time at The Beat..yes, Cagle made a bid, along with plenty of other stations nationwide. She could have had that, been somewhere else if she had wanted to. Besides, we already know how triflin R1 is, so let's move on...Elle does belong at the Beat, where they don't allow you to think, give you 20 second breaks and damn near make you read a script. She'd fit right in, wouldn't have to worry about thinking something up to fill her gappy breaks, and her annoying voice would be in good company.
Finally, to paraphrase Kevin Ross at radiofacts.com (plug, it's a good blog), why is upper management in the business of choosing on-air talent these days in the first place?! Say what you want about Reggie Rouse, that man eats, sleeps and bleeds V-103. THERE IS NO WAY THAT REGGIE WOULD CHOOSE ELLE OVER RAMONA. POINT BLANK. PERIOD. This whole fiasco is sooo obviously over Reggie's head...and you would think after their latest triumph - deciding to bring Porsche Foxx back - they might need to reevaluate their decision-making skills and let Reggie do his thing. It would serve V right if they lost Ramona to another station, but at the end of the day Ramona is going to do what's best for Ramona. Whether at middays, weekends or doing traffic, (perhaps afternoons, once they move Ryan to mornings?? if TV doesn't take her away first) Ramona will continue to do big things and get PAID regardless. She has held down all three positions for weeks now, and she wasn't doing it for free!
-Has anyone noticed V-103 is adding more and more 90s throwback joints? Hmm, maybe Radio One's MAGIC 107.5 is forcing V-103 to back off on some of the hip-hop between 10am-6pm and overnight.
-As for the HOT 107.9 drop dissing 95.5 The Beat I think its great. If my station is #3 out of the competition then im going to attack someone to get out the bottom. How many black folks in ATL between 18-25 actually have a PPM device?
-Poor HOT 107.9, Rickey Smiley Morning Show "to me" isn't that bad, but it aint' all that neither. I know folks that thought he was here actually live here in ATL believe it or not. The show content and ALL the jocks can be horrible at times. Here in ATL, there are too may 3-5 second silent periods throughout the show and between music. Not to mention, the same pre recorded local drops done by Rickey which makes it sound even more syndicated. Hands down, the A-Team was better but I refuse to listen to Frank & Wanda at V-103 nor CJ & Murph Dawg at 95.5 The Beat.
--WHERE IS: Tosswaid, E4Real, Pezo, Maria More, Grif, DJ Nabs, Harold Banks, T-Storm and Jerry Smokin B ???
I agree, The Beat is the worst for Hip Hop, however I think it's funny that Hot is conveniently forgetting their OWN airplay of pop princess Britney Spears...sure it was produced by Pharrell, but still...anyone remember the song, "I'm a Slave 4 U??" LOL!
The Rickey Smiley production is horrible, with all the dropouts, dead air and obviously old and prerecorded drops. Even when Paula is out, the play the same Rickey "here's Paula with traffic" drop!! LOL!!! I don't know if it's a local board-op situation, bad production on the show's end, or a combination of both! I'm in the same boat as you, basically forced to grab a CD when I happen to be up that early cuz I can't stand Frank and The Beat is just too damn irritating!!!
Where are they now?? E4Real is still doing his thing in town with his commercial production company doing a lot of club spots...you still hear him on Hot all the time, and sometimes his spots run on The Beat. I hear Maria is at some station in North Carolina. Griff is in New Zealand (That is soo crazy!! Good for him) as part of a morning show! Nabs is working on a documentary on Club Kaya, still dj-ing, and working with some artists, I heard. Does he still do that satellite show, The Product and The Power?? Last I heard, Jerry is doing some production work for different projects like Radio One's gospel cruise, still working on remixes.

Its good to hear you're still in da radio game. I remember listening to ya when i was supposed to be in da bed for school back in da day when you was at HOT 97.5(107.9 now). You was a great mixer too. I forgot what HOT 107.9 don't get down on the turntables like they use to.
Now that the new MAJIC 107.5/97.5 is up and running along with the new PRAISE 102.5, the Urban war here in ATL should be interesting for the Spring/Summer. Now Radio One needs to focus on HOT 107.9, again, to pull them up the ratings. I have a few suggestions and it starts with the middays and afternoon shows.
V103 is already trying to make changes. No Hip-Hop between 10am-2pm along with moving Elle to middays. The overall music selection has changed as well. V103 is playing more and more older R&B joints from the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. Sounds like Greg Street show from 6pm-10pm is the only time for Hip-Hop besides the weekend. V103 was following this same music pattern years ago, but they started playing more hip-hop during various time slots. I guess going back to the old way when they were #1 is what the plan seems to be.
In my own little opinion and 2 cents, HOT 107.9 needs to make more changes with the jocks. I think Emperor Searcy and Rashan Ali would make a great afternoon team. Hell, The A-Team Show from 2pm-6pm. To me, they were great in the mornings and I'd think they would do well together going against Ryan Cameron. Now as far as middays I don't know. For middays i'd say Mizz Shyneka since V103 is taking a chance with Elle, but hey these are just my opinions.
I'll send some past examples to give you an idea of how they go, or maybe I'll send an aircheck to Urban Insite. You'll really get to act a FOOL! We usually use professional actors, but our PD suggested we use some radio people too, since there's a lot of good people out there in the field who might wanna play.
Hit me if you're interested, and may God bless you in 2009.

I was replying to the comment that spoke on the V103 situation where people were saying that Ramona D should just move on. My comments could read for any jock though. People sometimes take the qucik route and suggest that someone should leave, but as long as you have your foot in the door, I would at least keep working until I find that better situation for myself. That's what stationsdo, they work you until they find something or someone they like a little more for whatever reason. Best advice I got on here was to ALWAYS keep your own thing going (Thanks Jazzman) because we all will eventually have them take THEIR mic away from us. Has anyone on UI ever not been fired, let go, or repositioned to another spot in the company?
blacks are STILL looked at as monkeys by many whites
the President of the Uinted States is a monkey
it's ok to kill the President of The United States
means that both the cartoonist and the spokesperson of the Post should LOSE THEIR JOBS!
I haven't bought the Post in over 20 years. This shit is not the first time the Post has disrespected people of color.
Going back to the 80's, there was a saying here in New York City that the only was to make the front page of the New York POst was if you were in handcuffs. But as long as you were dribbling a ball, you'd make the back pages.
but if we dont get our culture on the right track and up lift eachother it means NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!
How many times can you play Boyz II Men, Babyface,Guy, BBD, and New Edition??? Its stale already!
Its crazy when Tom Joyner is playing more Hip-Hop than Lady B!!!
J - Put Jesus first
O - then others
Y - then yourself
What did I just say?!?! Ya'll gone learn!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!! =D
I see STAR 99.7/WXST has mad some on-air changes recently or maybe im just late. Vicky James is no longer the midday diva in Chucktown. Champagne moves from evenings to now hold down the midday shift.. New to the city, former HOT 101.5 Miami midday diva Karen Vaughn joined STAR 99.7. She's holding down the evenings from 7pm-10pm. Hmm, wonder why Geno didn't put her in the middays? According to the current FA08 numbers, STAR 99.7 has dropped big time compared to the same time in FA07. On the other hand, rival MAGIC 107.3 is creeping up on STAR. Maybe Apex will finally launch an Urban sister station for STAR 99.7 on the new 95.9/WIOP which currently has no format. Still can't believe Z93 JAMZ continues to be #1 with no competition for the longest.
LOL!!!! =D
Does anyone agree that Black radio has changed over the years? When you think about it, Black Radio has turned into Hip Hop Mainstream radio. In other words, whoever thinks V 103 is wack - well, it's a true black station like it used to be (local, older type morning show, r and b middays, mixture afternoons, with your young uptempo hip dude at night, and quiet storm late nights). HOT 1079 is your mainstream hip hop station but those people 25-35 yrs old or so in a progressive market like Atlanta remember listening to black stations like V 103 - thus HOT 1079 is TOO HOOD/HIP HOPPY for them. So, everyone listens to V 103 at some point, but only a certain black segment (under 23) listens to 1079. Now, with 955 The Beat, they are the white version of HOT 1079. White people like hearing black music with white presentation. That's why HOT's main competition is 955 - V just has that feel that, if ma and daughter are in the car at either 4 pm or 8 pm, Ma feels good having V on for Ma and her daughter. Comments?
Black Radio will NEVER change the course it is on until they start losing dollars because of lost listeners.
Don't get confused about the money they are losing now, because all radio, TV, newspapers etc.. ad revenues are down. I'm talking about losing revenue because listeners are not there.
Black radio or let me say commercial music radio will not allow creative freedom, because it is and will get less expensive to put some drone in the studio, voice track or syndicate shows because people will listen.
Don't believe me. If you've been tothe vent more than five years how many of you said or read stuff like "Joyner sucks & will be off th air soon", "Nobody wants to listen to that country bumpkin Steve Harvey", "Michael Baisden is a fad and won't last" and now they ARE BLACK Radio on over 200 + stations (That's 200+ jobs GONE).
In Baltimore, Marc Clark had a successful show and got replaced because it is CHEAPER.
Believe it or not you are not a "listener", you are no different than a DJ who goes out to the club and cringes everytimeyou hear a wack mix, while the other people just keep on dancing. When a change happens that listeners don't like, They get mad, then they get used to then they keep listening.
MP3, satellites and all the other RADIO Killers have still not killed it. If the V103's, 92Q's, HOT's, MAGICS etc. Cared about creativity & style, then when I drove from Philly to SC,why did every "New Music Sttation" and every old school station sound alike in variuos markets alike including the "local" jocks. (OKAY WHUR sounded a little different)
They don't care about what's hot,not or anything in between until they start losing money because of lost listeners not cutbacks in advertising. So stop thinking, wishing hoping or praying they will change.

Great Comment ...and may I add- some might even stop dancing, but that doesn't mean they'll stop going to the club or even come back to the dance floor on the next floor, the same with radio
Our so called station programmers are full of it. However if you are so called full of outrage. Go through your inventory and slash every artist that has beat a woman, smoked pot/drugs and all the other crap. Drop those songs (if that won't break your pockets).
What a joke.
As for Chris Brown, what stations in what markets are pulling Chris Brown's music?
"My Feet Became My Carriage"
My feet became my carriage.
My hands became my guide.
My eyes became my vision.
My voice became my cry.
And though no one could see me
They listened as if they could.
And all the time I cherished
The moments where we stood.
In times of sometimes danger
In times of sometimes war.
I soothed their worn-out spirits.
I soothed them from afar.
It wasn’t such a challenge
That I could not control.
The early morning wake-ups,
The passion in my soul.
I gave it all my best shot
I gave it what I could.
And now I’ve done my duty.
For you, my neighborhood.
Life, now beholds a treasure
Of what we all have shared.
It’s not how long I’ve known you.
It’s just because I cared.

A Cleveland area radio station has pulled Chris Brown's music from its playlists.
Cleveland's music station 96.5 KISS FM announced on their website that they will not play Brown's music on their station until the alleged domestic violence dispute surrounding the singer is resolved.
KISS FM evening host Java Joel pulled Brown's music on Monday after receiving several calls from outraged listeners that wanted the singer's tunes off the airwaves.
"In light of the events with the Chris Brown/Rihanna abuse situation, Java Joel was taking several comments on his evening show Monday, February 9th," Bo Matthews, KISS FM program director says. "His listeners have strong feelings about these unfortunate events…I then made the decision to rid the whole station of Chris Brown songs while this plays out." Matthews added that, "We are fans of Chris Brown's music, and this is not something that will last forever."
The Associated Press reports that radio stations in Indianapolis and Pittsburgh have also pulled Brown's music.

Radio One Philadelphia Exposed...
1) The GM Andrew Rosen is having a unprofessional intimate relationship with the LSM Florence Joyce. The two have been spotted together by many employees outside of work. Also make inappropriate comments to one another in front of team members, making employees uncomfortable. Andrew Rosen also has a track record through employment of having intimate relationships with subordinates.
2) Due to this relationship Florence Joyce is able to create and cause problems affecting the entire staff at Radio One Philadelphia, issues such as hostile environment, preferential treatment, and harassment.
3) Through the intimate relationship between Florence Joyce and Andrew Rosen, Florence Joyce has been able to show favoritism to family members and friends she has hired and some who were there before her hire. Through unfair and over generous account shifting, and unequal performance expectations.
4) LSM misrepresented her managerial experience through interview process, a combination of lack of experience and inappropriate relationship with GM has enabled the work environment
5) Florence Joyce is also through this relationship allowed to harass employees through other departments and accusations, while never going to their department directly, instead going to GM, which creates stress and interdepartmental communications problems.
6) GM has unfairly tormented and tortured qualified employees pushing them out the door to open slots for less effective and less qualified employees who happen to have worked with Florence Joyce. A careful examination of billing history will substantiate this fact.
7) GM paid Clear Channel employees who were friends of Florence Joyce while they were sitting out non-competes to hire them. Tracy Coleman
8) Management unethical standards have resulted in decreased billing in the marketplace.
9) Management has misrepresented billing to corporation, through things such as call a thons that produce false numbers that never go into the system, which results in unearned rewards for favored workers.
10) Management does not train new employees resulting in high turnover.
11) All of these circumstances have lead to the loss of effective. Managers whose tenure with Radio One was longstanding and with good track records.
12) Inappropriate shifting of billing accounts to satisfy over generous guarantees to under qualified employees who cant handle accounts, resulting in loss of income to qualified employees who built accounts resulting in loss of income to employee and loss of revenue to company. This is done in order to satisfy guaranty of ineffective employees at the expense of effective employees and at the expense of the corporation.

ladies whats done in the dark comes to the light, your sisters choices are her own. and might i add deformation would mean that she has character and well we all in the business know the real deal on that. but as i said #1 is not the biggest problem. what is the problem are #2 - #12. and the reality is those items can and will be proven through computer systems. so how is that for cold hard proof.
and how great you call this a gossip site, well if its so lowly, why on earth are you ladies on here...get a grip...

A type of defamation. Slander is an untruthful oral (spoken) statement about a person that harms the person's reputation or standing in the community. Because slander is a tort (a civil wrong), the injured person can bring a lawsuit against the person who made the false statement. If the statement is made via broadcast media -- for example, over the radio or on TV -- it is considered libel, rather than slander, because the statement has the potential to reach a very wide audience.
You better have stone hard facts and proof...cause you have set yourself up. I wish you the best of luck hiding behind a G-mail account.
When I tuned in, I heard Jade crying saying how wrong it was and how she is praying for the attacker. She was thankful Sam wasn't hurt. Skip, on the other hand, was ready to kick the guy's U KNOW WHAT.
Anyone have any further details?
P.S. Prank phone calls? No wonder the have dropped so far in the rankings.
I hope they get it on track. When Skip used to fill in (before Skip Murphy left), his show was really good. Now, I don't know what to think.

KKDA-FM (104) DJ Sam Putney robbed by bat-wielding man
12:00 AM CDT on Friday, March 13, 2009
By STEVE THOMPSON / The Dallas Morning News
stevethompson@dallasnews.com
Local radio personality Sam Putney was robbed of his iPod early Thursday by a bat-wielding man who was quickly arrested, authorities said.
The incident outside Putney's Grand Prairie station gave Skip Cheatham and Da Playground plenty to talk about afterward on KKDA-FM (104.5).
"We'll talk about it some more tomorrow," Putney said in an interview after the broadcast.
Michael Blackwell, 21, of Flower Mound faces a robbery charge in the attack on Putney, who wasn't injured.
Putney, 60, said police told him that Blackwell had intended to steal his cellphone because the suspect thought it would have a number for film director Spike Lee. Blackwell had written something he wanted Lee to read, Putney said police told him.
"He was going to get somebody's cellphone that had Spike Lee's phone number, because he had to talk to Spike Lee," Putney said. "Is that crazy, or is that crazy?"
Putney said he got out of his pickup about 4:40 a.m. in the radio station's parking lot in the 600 block of Northwest Sixth Street. Then he saw his attacker.
"A huge guy, man, 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4," Putney said. "He had a mask on, and he had a bat, and he was running so fast at me I just knew he was going to take my head off."
Putney, whose briefcase was slung over his shoulder, said he managed to dodge the bat.
"He swung, and I ducked and moved to the side," Putney said. "He fell and hit the ground, and when he got up, my briefcase had come off my shoulder."
Putney said he hit Blackwell in the chest with his keys and started shouting. Meanwhile, several things, including his iPod, had spilled from his briefcase.
The man grabbed the iPod and fled in a car.
After officers arrived, the suspect passed by again, police said. They pulled him over and arrested him without incident, said Detective John Brimmer, spokesman for Grand Prairie police.
Blackwell was being held in the Grand Prairie Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
"I feel so bad for that kid," Putney said. "Are times that tough? They must be."
thanks
also this is the first time in a long time that the board has not had any philly news lol

It is with a heavy heart - yet a blessed peace - that I'm writing to inform you of the passing of our dear friend, colleague, and sister-in-Christ Sonya Hamm; nationally renowned gospel radio personality. Sonya went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday night (3/25/09) - with her husband and mother by her bedside. Tentative plans include: a memorial service at World Changers Church International (Pastors Creflo & Taffi Dollar / College Park, Georgia); and a homegoing service at Christian Faith Center (Pastor Brenda Timberlake / Creedmoor, North Carolina). Arrangements, floral sprays, cards, letters and acknowledgments will be handled by Burthey Funeral Service located in Durham, NC. Please stay tuned to your local radio stations, news publications, and e-mail for further details once they are confirmed.
The family wishes to thank you for the outpouring of love and support during their time of bereavement. Your prayers and encouragement are greatly appreciated.

FAMU grade-tampering trial update: Defendant, prosecutor spar as testimony ends
By Angeline J. Taylor • DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER • March 26, 2009
As the minutes ticked by this afternoon, the tension between federal prosecutor Eric Mountin and defendant Marcus Barrington built to a fever-pitch.
The two began their verbal sparring while Barrington was on the witness stand in a trial in which he has been indicted on five counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, unauthorized computer access and aggravated identity theft.
The computer-tampering case involves unauthorized grade changes at Florida A&M University, and the charges bring a maximum prison term of nearly 30 years.
Members of the jury looked back and forth between the prosecutor and the defendant as if it was a tennis match.
Mountin fired questions at Barrington. Barrington, growing agitated, tried to anticipate questions and respond accordingly.
Mountin told him his testimony differed from a summarized report when the U.S. Attorney’s Office questioned him. Barrington replied he saw many inconsistencies in that report.
Then Barrington added, “Maybe you should have had a transcript.”
Mountin asked Barrington if he was ever a lookout outside of FAMU’s Grand Ballroom while his friend installed “spy” software on the registrar’s computer? Barrington said he waited for his roommate to take him home.
Barrington repeatedly said he didn’t instruct or advise anyone. He also said he didn’t solicit students to find out if they wanted their grades changed. Mountin asked if Barrington was just an innocent observer.
“I can’t characterize myself as an innocent observer,” Barrington said.
He said he knew what co-defendants Lawrence Secrease and Christopher Jacquette were doing. Secrease and Jacquette — former FAMU students, as is Barrington — have pleaded guilty.
Barrington pleaded not guilty and today marked the fourth day of his federal trial. But question after question riled Barrington until he finally let loose on Mountin.
“You flew in people from all over the world,” Barrington yelled, “but you couldn’t get any of them to say I changed their grades.”
Many student witnesses throughout the week said Secrease or Jacquette asked them whether they needed grades changed or residency status altered from out-of-state to in-state to get a decrease in tuition. At least 90 student records were altered and more than 650 overall changes were made.
(2 of 3)
Only a couple of students said they knew Barrington. One of those was Sheerie Edwards. Federal prosecutors called her up as a rebuttal witness.
Edwards, a senior at FAMU, said she spoke directly with Barrington about the possibility of changing grades. She said she gave him a list.
Witness Robert Welch was also damaging for the defense. He said Barrington came to his apartment one day with a laptop asking him to “hold it for a friend.” FBI agents confiscated the laptop. It’s considered part of the prosecution’s evidence.
Barrington said he wanted Welch to hold it for friends.
“Little did I know they were going to burn me,” Barrington said.
The prosecution and defense closed their cases today. All evidence has been presented. Friday the two sides will give closing arguments before the jury will deliberate.
updated 12:35 p.m.
Marcus Barrington, who is on trial in federal court on charges he changed FAMU students' grades and residency status through computer tampering, is expected to testify in his own defense today, his attorney, Robert Harper, said.
Also, a Florida Department of Law Enforcement official is expected to testify for the prosecution.
U.S. District Judge Stephan P. Mickle has asked the prosecution and defense to wrap up witness testimony today. The case could go to jurors Friday.
Check back with Tallahassee.com for more on this story.
10:30 a.m.: FAMU grade-tampering trial update: It was 'never an organized business'
Improving college students’ grades – or charging them for changes to residency status – was “never an organized business,” former Forida A&M student Christopher Jacquette said this morning in court.
Jacquette testified it wasn’t a group of students who sought to “defraud the government. It wasn’t the desire or the purpose (to defraud the government), but ultimately it was the result,” Jacquette said.
“I don’t think anyone expected it to happen this way,” he added.
Jacquette was being questioned this morning by defense attorney Robert Harper, who represents defendant Marcus Barrington. Jacquette and Lawrence Secrease have both pleaded guilty to federal charges regarding the grade-tampering scandal at FAMU.
(3 of 3)
Barrington has been on trial since Monday. The prosecution is expected to rest no later than 1 p.m. today.
It’s not known if Barrington will take the stand in his behalf.
Former FAMU student describes ease of computer access in grade-tampering case
Christopher Jacquette borrowed a suit Wednesday to testify in federal court as a computer-tampering case involving former Florida A&M University students continued. He's been housed in the Leon County Jail where he's facing felony battery and other charges.
Jacquette said his former friend, Marcus Barrington, filed the battery charges. That's just one indication of how much has changed between Barrington, Jacquette and co-defendant Lawrence Secrease — FAMU buddies now facing federal charges and time in prison. Jacquette and Secrease have already entered guilty pleas in the case and are to be sentenced April 20.
Barrington is on trial this week. He and the others have been indicted on five counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, unauthorized computer access and aggravated identity theft. Prosecutor Eric Mountin has called Barrington the "leader of a small group" of students who improved hundreds of grades and changed students' residential status from out-of-state to in-state, creating a huge tuition decrease. If found guilty, Barrington faces a maximum prison term of nearly 30 years.
Secrease and Jacquette served as prosecution witnesses Wednesday. They were among those testifying on how the computer tampering took place.
"The group of people we were around had close relationships with the registrar's (office)," said Secrease, a Houston resident.
Jacquette testified that the three turned to installing spy software on FAMU computers after forging grade-change slips no longer worked. Jaquette, using old ties with the Office of Student Affairs, asked to be let into FAMU's locked Grand Ballroom when registration computers were there. He propped open a back door, letting Secrease and Barrington in to install the software, Jacquette said.
School administrators learned of the grade changes and fixed them. But that didn't last long. The co-defendants and at least five other friends gained access and changed the grades again. Jacquette testified that Barrington filled out his graduation applications using the unauthorized grades.
"It was very important to make sure his grades lined up," Jacquette, a Compton, Calif., resident, said.
Barrington drew a map of the Registrar's Office, and the six others went to install spy software to the registrar's computer. They distracted one employee that they knew well, and one student was admitted behind the locked door in Foote Hilyer's administration building. Then, the group met at Chili's.
One of the friends, FAMU student Octavia Coleman, said the group was "thanking God we got away with it."
Coleman testified, "Why would you pray about something like that?"

1245 p.m.: Barrington found guilty of all five counts
FAMU graduate Marcus Barrington was found guilty in federal court today on all five counts of fraud, unauthorized computer access and aggravated identity theft involving grade-tampering at FAMU.
After the guilty verdict was announced, the judge revoked Barrington's bond and ordered him to be held in jail until sentencing, scheduled for June 8.
Check back at www.tallahassee.com and www.rattlernews.com for updates and reactions to today's verdict.
Ms.FAMU who testified against Barrington on yesterday, and admitted to grade changes for herself; gets to keep her title and remains at the college.
None of the students who were involved that did theft by taking are being charged anything. They're walking away free.
I think the three should have gotten probation with so many months of community service. We need more community service and not more prisons being built in America. This story is only beginning. I will be assisting with the research, etc. on this for the family. Barrington's mother is my former Freshman College Roommate and I am going to be there for her.
However, it looks like Elle will be on V-103 at middays for the next 2 years. But it's good to see Sytonnia back on the air.
I'm sure Elle will stick around as long as they let her.

i concur. i hear radio one philadelphia is under investigation. so happy to see someone decided to stand up for how women are treated there and to think its ran by a woman.
I feel sorry for those that are doing all the work and weren't making market value in the first place.
Debbie is alright with me. At least she wasn't above people or didn't act like she was when needed. But like I said, everyone has their own view. Gwen and Latoya, when they HATE on you - you gotta love it.
May God bless my radio one fam.
I would never want to pitch it to a client. It's right from the side of the table most local advertisers don't like. Rickey was never really very funny. He's playing stuff on his show heard on
every country urban station in the south. The show is
just really bad. Without Mickey, I doubt the show will remain in Miami. Radio One surely can do better
than Rickey. And, shame on you Rickey...Mickey gave
you a slot on 95.7 in Birmingham....and then you push
him away from your show? Shame on you Rickey for
putting out a terrible product for advertisers and
sellers and pushing back the very man that gave you
an opportunity.
Clearchannel Greensboro is already experiencing a mass sales employee exodus to Entercom. Brian Anthony is closer to the guillotine's blade everyday. 3 Years and not one victorious book against WQMG. Even with Steve, Keith and Baisden they can't give away spots. They win ALMOST every where else but not in Greensboro - at least while B Anthony is programming.HMMMMM. Saterfield, wake up man before he gets you fired too.
Choppy choppy.......
Another rumor is that Big Boy is about to get cut loose from ABC. Seems like Radio One is doing something right with their syndication. Smiley is killin with PPM everywhere. Number one in Dallas. Number 4 in Atlanta. Up in Detroit. Good move bringing on Hollywood.
And #4 18-34 ISN'T GOOD in Atlanta! He's behind ALL his 18-34 competitors: V103, Q100, AND 955 The Beat. That's NOT WINNING, kid. The new Hip Hop station is confusing. Is that supposed to HELP Hot 107.9??? I bet 107.9 goes more adult to try and compete with V103.
In St. Louis Rickey gets beat by a station with NO morning show at all (KATZ.)
WEDR in Miami has been TANKING in mornings since they took off a number one show to put Rickey on. Ask any of your friends in Miami, not his co-workers on this site, what they think of the show. Or in Atlanta ... or anywhere it's on.
Not many people say they like the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, including his staff and the staff at ALL his major market stations. Don't take someone on this site's word for it, listen yourself and decide. It won't take long to form an opinion.
And it's true about Big Boy, but Citadel is putting together several celebrity Hip Hop morning shows, all based on the West Coast. They apparently haven't learned a thing from Big Boy or Monique. They're chasing the Steve Harvey dream....
OKAY. I AM FINALLY A RICKEY SMILEY BELIEVER. THE RATINGS CAME OUT TODAY HERE IN SHREVEPORT AND SMILEY EVEN HAD THAT ACCESS STATION HIT A 6 SHARE. THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN A SIX BEFORE. HE JUST DID AN ASS WOOPIN ON THE CITADEL STATION IN OKLA CITY. IF YOU CAN'T BEAT EM, JOIN EM.

DOMINO NOW ON THE AIR AT KKDA. LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE GROOMING HIM TO TAKE OVER MID DAYS OR AFTERNOON DRIVE.
seat to fresh talent. How can we pay our dues, when ole heads refuse to release the format. I see ole heads in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philly,Dallas, and I can go on and on. You dj's our holding on to a pipe dream. You're phony pretenders holding on to a dream long gone. How can the hiphop format remain fresh, when you have ole head male and female dj's fronting. Watch out ole heads, the grey is showing your true colors. Let us take your seat to the next level. Give up the mic and R.I.P.
I am an old head. I'm 40. I gladly gave up my seat on the younger formatted stations long ago. Hip-Hop died when 2 pac and Biggie left us. Now it's just "RAP" music....not hip-hop. Furthermore today's "RAP" game is just a fashion show. Lil Wayne and T.I. ain't talking about ish. Today's "RAP" game is more about what you see and less about what you hear.
If I had to go back to playing that Amos and Andy - Steppin Fetchin nonsense disguised as "RAP"; I would quit my job in radio and shovel horse manure for a living. Please don't insult the orginators of the "hip-hop" art form. Lil Wayne, T.I etc. is not hip-hop. It's a joke.
Better yet let it be known that Radio One's iPower 92.1 reflects BET's 106 and Park. Cats still dont understand why they changed their name to iPower when most Radio One stations didnt....call Richmond one of Jay Stevens pet projects, not working Jay....
This is why I'm doing it my way I always believe that real
talent shows and will stay. Also don't ever let no one tell you no
and that you can't do it. Radio is my passion and music is my life.
With people telling you what to do and how to sound and you won't make it can mess with you and only the strong survive.
I have decided to get myself out there on the net through blogtalkradio. I started in Jan and have been blessed with people that have been following me for me and enjoying the music and gossip that i bring. Have had the opportunity to have my first guest in March Montell Jordan then Mr.Marcus, Case and now Gloria Velez and Lil Mo are set for this month.
I type all of this to say you have to believe in yourself it's hard out there and especially in this business.
Check me out the best has yet to come

Quick question, how do you see the industry going?
From Flint, MI a rookie jock trying to learn. check out my aircheck and let me know what you think.
Ventors - please ask yourself, why?
I know your job probably sucks. "They" are probably underpaying you, while overworking you, and not providing the resources you need to succeed. Enough already. The ones who are in their positions now perhaps rightfully deserve to be there. Or they play the game better than most and are determined to stay there by any means necessary.
Instead of saying how the old timers need to move along, let them remain in this dying medium of radio and you venture into the new realm of possibility.
Mark my words: when you can stream the internet into your car and listen to any website (internet radio or otherwise), terrestrial radio as we know it, will have the final nail in its coffin. The way it sounds now and especially the way urban radio is presented, it can't come fast enough. Management selects those who are weak-minded, easily broken, and those who have no fight in them, with even less talent to draw on, and annoint them 'stars'. Let them. The result of that, is the product that is being currently dispersed, consequently, why EVERYONE between 12-64 says radio is bad. XM/Sirius will die soon because it broke away from its 'non-conventional' roots, and went back to the same-old, same-old and their subscribers were like, "we paid money to get away from this monotony, not just so it was commercial-free."
It just made me feel sort of sad for those venting about the same things, year after year. Its a done deal. You can't save it. "They" don't want to save it. "They" want to save themselves, not you, or the community, or the integrity of this medium. Its bad, it has gotten worse, and its going to get worser (said on purpose). The money isn't coming back, its leaving radio at an unprecendented pace, and when (if) the economy rebounds, radio will be worse off because the new mediums will have demonstrated resilliance during this economic downturn.
THE BEATS DJ MILMATIC, DJ TOUCH TONE AND TOSHAMAKIA. THEN WRNB'S DC TODD AND TIFANY BACON WERE LET GO TODAY!

You don't have to be a butt head to make a point young one.
Something that I learned from an Ole Head in my time in radio is that it's all about time and opportunity. You grind now and put in the time because opportunities are bound to appear. Another thing is that you're going to have to travel, you might not like the area where the gig is at but you damn sure better be hungry cause there are always other cats in this game that are gunning for that slot just like you. Probably something that young cats have yet to learn is that you gots to be humble in this game, network your tail off and stay in contact with these connections because it's not just about you cracking the mic it's about you knowing someone who knows someone to get you in.
All I can say about this latest round of Clear Channel cuts is that someone I had the pleasure to meet, Sheilah Belle from Clear Channel Richmond was one of the casualties. I know she's going to bounce back because her talent was so great, she truly was an Ole Head that cats could learn so much from.
It doesnt matter youngin if you're with Radio One, Clear Channel, Cumulus, Beasley, Sirius XM, etc. this is a time where everyone is having to step their game up and venture into uncharted territory.
Whether you're doing internet radio, blogradio, etc. we're all having to expand our view of this game because it truly is survival of the fittest and the ones who are are going to make it are the ones who bring that versatility in skills to the table.
Oh yeah just to let you know, that Ole Head that said they refused to give up their spot is giving you a challenge. Can you crack the mic better, provide the on-air presence to hold down the fort day in and day out? Put in ya time first then the rewards will be endless...
I'm done, thoughts, feedback, comments...

OAKLAND, Calif. (CN) - A fund raiser for the 6 high school students expelled from a Louisiana school sued the ABC Radio Thursday saying s a radio host defamed him and by saying the money he raised "has not been going where it needs to go" and calling him "shady."
James Rucker and ColorOfChange.org sued radio personality Michael Baisden, ABC Radio Network and Citadel Broadcasting in Alameda County Court.
Rucker says he and his group raised and distributed $210,000 for bail and legal defense for the Jena 6, black high school students in Louisiana who were arrested after a racially charged fight. Rucker says he distributed the money by October 2007, and that Baisden's staff knew about it before the Nov. 5, 2007 show on which the defamation allegedly occurred.
On that day, Rucker says, Baisden said, "The money has not been going where it needs to go." He says Baisden added that "We contacted them [the plaintiffs] ourselves. ... I'm going to be frank. ... The perception of my staff is that he is a little shady."
Baisden defamed him again on Nov. 6, Rucker says, by saying: "He (James Rucker) sound shady to me. Sounds like a shady brother ... Slim Shady." (Parentheses in complaint.)
And on Nov. 9, Rucker says, Baisden read on the air and posted on his Web site a statement "that ColorOfChange.org was not authorized by the Jena 6 families to collect money on behalf of four of the six families."
Rucker is represented by M.J. Bogatin.

Burn burn burn Black Radio
After about one whole year later AND wiser, I've come prepared with the following pair of statements:
(1) Anybody who has the almighty nerve to come up with a pointless way to pretty much "relieve the world" of commercial radio needs to get kicked in the head...HARD. Alot of radio talent is out there waiting for that opportunity. GOOD talent, that is...some that haven't been around in a while, some in the process of building his/her name. I'm not talking about the waste-of-time-and-radio-airwave-space-brown-nosing-toe-stepping-on "personalities" that have been dragging down the entertainment value (as well as the stock value) of their respective parent companies. Terrestrial AND satellite radio are plummeting because of which. It doesn't matter how cutting edge/controversial the personality happens to be (like myself, for starters), the entertainment value brings people, people bring money, money pays off the entertainment value with a little bit of profit to afford big name concerts with big name people at big name venues...and on that note, that does kinda bring sponsors, commercials, etc. You should all know that by now...but y'all just tend to --uhh, wait-- COMPLETELY forgot that because of what I call the 3 major sins of broadcasting: Payola (which still exists no matter what you say or what the FCC tries to do), greedy radio owners that want to be celebrities/on-air journalists (you know of whom I refer to) & the attempt to monopolize damn near everything. Obviously this is what's killing radio in general, aside from iPods, podcasts, mp3 players & music websites. So honestly, I do hope it (being the Performance Tax Bill) passes just so that all these greedy a$$ corporate radio folk get what they had coming a LONNNNNNGGGGG time ago. Speaking of people who had it coming...
(2) Dear Mr. Hegwood: karma's a b!tc#, ain't it? The fact that you sat there and tried to run a company with your "f*** the community, it's all about the hits" mentality ONLY to attempt to run a radio station (oxymoronically named THE STREETZ) on Radio One's dime was PURE genius...if I wasn't being sarcastic, I would've actually meant this. I said it a couple of years ago and I'm gonna continue to say it now...this is the man most of you DJ's & personalities look up to??? Y'all may be fighting to be first in line to kiss this man's a$$, but I never did and NEVER WILL, and that's why this 2-time entrepreneurial failure got rid of mine back in '07. A relief it was...mainly because I'm doing better now with my 'Werkz, which obviously has seen more profit than ClearChannel, Cox and Radio One combined over the last year. So why sweat going back to a sinking industry? Besides, I have bigger and better moves to make.
That's pretty much it. I don't think I'll have any time to look back through this for another year. Maybe I'll post up another something in the next 5 years...at a time when a more smarter-run radio station/corporation exists. It's either because I'm working for it...OR I'M OWNING IT.
Thank you for reading...really.
Johnny V out.. T-Roy in 2 to 6 PM at Power 99 Philly.
The Performance Rights Act, which would impose performance royalties on broadcast radio, has passed in the House Judiciary Committee. The bill now move on to a vote in the full House.
I know a lot of out of work employees from Radio One are thinking to themselves, "that's what Kathy and Alfred get" but think about your friends who are still employed there.
There are many ways to look at this situation and what might come about is a true challenge for Program Directors in how they dictate their rotations. Many artists that you normally hear might soon not be heard on most stations. Newer artists have another hurdle to get their music played and promo reps will have a harder time trying to get new rotation entries.
It's a tough situation for everyone...will the end of Black Radio happen, not with this bill...will Radio One change their ways, probably not but this has sure lit a fire under their butts.
You might break even on the payola you take.
If you cant afford to pay $5000 a year you shouldnt be in the Radio Business. Go back to the trailer in SE.
At the end of my life, when I stand before GOD, I would hope that I do not have a single bit of talent left, And I could say I used everything you gave me." -Anonymous
Lady Jade is still there, but I have noticed that she's not as vocal. Great move Skip, Gary and everyone else involved in the decision.
To the Hot 97 situation.....truth be told, you cant put this all on Ebro but in a way, you've got to say.....NYC is the #1 radio market in the country and you syndicate an Urban morning show??? If this aint a way for them to save money I dont know what else is and has anyone thought about the fact that once Cipha Sounds goes off the air at Hot 97, he heads down the street to Sirius for his own morning show on Shade 45....there goes your listeners there...
No diss to Big Boy but his show strickly isnt for NYC because he's a West Coast cat and has no visibility in the city unless Ebro wants to fly him back and forth to do events which is pointless. You basically are biting off of Power 106, the sister station which shows no creativity. Ebro, you need to either pick up Star and Buc syndication or face the reality that you're going to have to put together a squad to launch a morning show. And please dont get Terrence J or Rosci because you would lose all respect in NYC...I can see 50 now coming up there clowning Rosci while she's trying to interview him....side note...to any PD that subscribes to that 106 and Park radio crap...STOP WASTING YA MONEY...INVEST IT LOCALLY...ok, back to Ebro..I think you can pull it off and will get it together by 09 which is something that probably you have planned. You've got a lot of talent to choose from....Sunny, Fatman Scoop, Free and AJ, Keisha Monk, hell....you could bring Bugsy over from Kiss....
Jonsey's morning show on Radio One...can we say that Radio One has plans for this show in syndication since a lot of cities have lost faith in Russ Parr.....Smart Move, better move if they somehow syndicated Oliva Foxx on afternoon drive instead of Monique....
BBN is relatively new yet somewhat proven commodity as far as national shows are concerned. Also, it's probably a safe bet in terms of public relations. Who wants to place bets on Big Boy or his crew engaging in controversial bits like the "Tsunami Song" or another near-the-studio scuffle from one of the Goof Unit (G-Unit)?
Speaking of Colby, don't sleep on him. I hear a station at 97.5 may be making a "switch"! Could Star and Buc morning come back to Philly on 97.5 with Colby as PD and afternoon jock? Stranger things have happen.
It would make no sense for another station to come in playing it. If you haven't noticed by the falling ratings in every city, flipping a station to an urban leaning station is not the smartest move a broadcaster can make.
Star & Buckwild wouldn't be strong enough in the market anyway unless they moved to Philly.
Jazz formats are falling off all around the country
