You may have to leave where you are and get another position or do something different also. Is there something else that you do that's secondary now, that you would like to pursue?
What is absolutely neccesary is to THINK BIG! Make it happen.
I've been in radio for more than a minute and I know without a doubt that I'm going to have to break away and do my own thing. It's just a matter of time, so start building your plan so you can exit on your own terms.
Last piece of advice... think about what it is you love to do so much, that you would do it for free... but you're so damn good at it, that people pay you to do it! That's what you should be doing.
And opps there it is. After WLAC I came out to LA for Sugar Hill Records, worked radio on the weekends and became a member of the Screen Actors Guild. Currently doing radio syndication, acting and writing my book, BLUES ROCK & NEWS, the history of WLAC...with the blessings of CLEAR CHANNEL, INC. who now owns WLAC.
Peace.
Am I the first one?
You can also upload a graphic directly by editing your profile.
Was I the first to hit you up Chris? They can also go to settings and add a pix. I finally figured it out.
Good reason in this case, though.
The previous site fell victim to a malicious hacker. So, the Vent is doing well to just be up and operational.
Yeah... we can finally put names with the vents. Bring it on!
Almost reads like a crime is taking place.

ATLANTA, May 12, 2008, 9:40 a.m. - Two top executives are leaving black media giant Radio One, as the company continues to struggle.
Alejandro A. Clabiorne, vice president of marketing for the company, has given his notice and Lee Michaels, national program director for Syndication One News/Talk, has already left, three sources tell Redding News Review.
Neither Clabiorne nor Michaels could be reached for comment.
Their departures come as the company last week also lost another one of its key employees, talk radio star Joe Madison. Madison, who is ranked one of the top 20 talk radio show hosts in the nation and a recipient of Talkers magazine's Freedom of Speech Award, will now be working directly for rival XM 169 The Power starting in June.
It is not clear if he will continue his longtime show on Radio One's WOL-AM in Washington, D.C.
AR Out!
I'm really diggin it..

what's being called the largest fake media file outbreak in three years, some 500,000 people have fallen prey to a phony music or video track that is actually a spyware-infested Trojan horse.
Usually purporting to be a music track with an MP3 file extension (in this case, an MP3 track from the UK group Girls Aloud), the file is actually an installer that claims to require a special codec and a special media player to play back the file.
Install the codec and what you really get is a computer screen full of pop-ups delivered through a variety of malware programs. You can see what the infection process looks like by checking out the video on this post. The attack is being distributed primarily through peer-to-peer networks.
This is hardly an original attack, but the scale is immense: Those 500,000 attacks occurred in the space of just one week. That's substantial.
The bright spot is that according to McAfee, which provided the data in the BBC report, only about 10 percent of those who downloaded the infected file actually installed it.
The infected file incorporates all manner of potential file names. Though the BBC story includes a half-dozen, the real list of names is exhaustive to the point where it would make little sense including it here. It's likely that that list will continue to grow, too, as the attack continues to develop.
You already know what you need to do now, but I'll say it again: Update your antivirus software, make sure it's running real-time scans, and keep off those peer-to-peer networks.
Are we now seeing the Clinton families True Colors with her recent comments?
Will Bob Barr be a factor if he runs for the lib party?
Are people going to vote for colors or issues?
In Mississippi, the democrats took a senate seat away from the Rep. Will there be more Dems to take seats?
Hillary's recent comments are expected from a wounded candiate.
Bob Bar will be a small factor.
People vote on color issues everyday. This is no different. White Nationalist and Black Americans have a symbiotic relationship. White people pre-consciously see themselves as superior. Black people (generally) see themselves as inferior.
Don't count Conservatives out. They will stop using the 'R' in front of thier name and go more mainstream in their campaigns. Dems take "real-issues" for granted and play defense too often.

The publishing company that owns the Curious George image says it is considering legal action to stop the sale of a T-shirt depicting Barack Obama as the monkey from children's books.
The T-shirts are being peddled by Marietta bar owner Mike Norman at his Mulligan's Bar and Grill in Cobb County. They show a picture of Curious Georgie peeling a banana, with the words "Obama '08" underneath.
Rick Blake, a spokesman for publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, which owns Curious George, said Wednesday that the company didn't authorize the use of the character's image, but hasn't been in touch with anybody selling or manufacturing the shirts.
"We find it offensive and obviously utterly out of keeping with the value Curious George represents," Blake said. "We're monitoring the situation and weighing our options with respect to legal action."
Norman has said he got the T-shirts from someone in Arkansas. He started selling them at his bar -- known for the provocative, ultra-conservative political slogans often posted on signs out front -- in April but said he has no plans to mass market them.
The sales came to light this week when a loose coalition of local groups called a protest of the T-shirts.
About a dozen protestors rallied against the shirts Tuesday afternoon, condemning them as racist and asking Norman to stop selling them.
Norman acknowledged the imagery's Jim Crow roots but said he sees nothing wrong with depicting a prominent African-American as a monkey.
"We're not living in the (19)40's," he said. "Look at him . . . the hairline, the ears -- he looks just like Curious George."
Marietta native Pam Lindley, 47, joined Tuesday's protest after reading about the controversy.
"I don't want people to think this is what Marietta is all about," she added, motioning towards the tavern. "This is what some people think the South is still like. Marietta's come a long way but I guess it's still got a little ways to go."
She said she'd like to see the city ban Norman's provocative musings regularly posted on a sign out front of the bar, which is near Marietta's downtown square. Those who gathered Tuesday say they will continue their campaign against Norman's "hate speech."
But his defenders are just as resolute. Mulligan's is a refuge, they say, in an otherwise hypersensitive world. Smoking isn't only allowed at the bar, it's expected.
"This place is a diamond in the rough," said Gene McKinley, a Woodstock engineer among the patrons Tuesday. "People here are genuine and honest. It's the one place I can go without having to worry if I'm offending someone."
Norman said he fielded calls throughout Tuesday about his T-shirts. An ajc.com story about the controversy was picked up on the Drudge Report. "One guy in New Jersey wanted me to send him 100 shirts," said Norman, 63.
He said he noted physical similarities between the Democratic frontrunner and the cartoon monkey while watching a Curious George movie with his grandchildren.
Someone -- "probably a customer, I don't know" -- from Arkansas sent him the shirts, Norman said.
The Tennessee native said he's providing a public service of sorts, reminding people they have a right to offend.
"This is my marketing tool," he said.
Hillary Clinton has proved NOTHING other than West VA is populated almost exclusively by inbred, single-digit-IQ redneck hillbillies who would lynch THEMSELVES before voting for a Black man.
I had to point out to my wife back in January something that comedienne Sheryl Underwood pinted out: "Every woman is NOT your friend". As soon as Senator Obama started whupping Clinton's butt, she and her husband ("America's first Black President....REALLY????) started pulling the race card. Now she wants to go back and seat Florida and Michigan delegates, even though she agreed that they would not count !
It's like Donna Brazile said on CNN last night...you have to have respect for the process. Obama is respecting the process, playing by the rules, and is winning. Clinton thinks the process can be manipulated to suit her own ends (entitlement), and is losing, no matter what chicanery she tries to pull.
If they screw Obama out of this nomination, there is no way I'm voting Democrat come November. It really does appear both Democrat and Republican parties are two sides of the same coin.
Dont get ISDN, get cable. It's faster.
Not all studios have ip codecs (internet remote equipment), and most manufactures are NOT compatible with each other, while ISDN codecs (like Zephyr) are all compatible with each other.

The Internet Advertising Bureau says the Web surpassed radio and cable TV for the first time, with a 26% rise in revenues last year. Consumer advertisers remained the largest category, accounting for 55% of last year's Internet revenues.
When I worked in radio sales, I was pushing Internet. Of course my Manager had no vision, blinded by Miller Kaplan. I hope radio wakes up and catches up before it's too late.

Hey Lady B!

I'm a young broadcast professional and I work the over night shift. I find it hard at times to network and meet people from other stations. Can u please have a section for people like me who are trying to move up in their career but can't seem to meet the right person to take them there. This business is all about who u know... and I need to meet some folks... ya digg
From Indianapolis to New Orleans, Guy Black has improved the arbitrons in every market he has impacted!!! Paul Robinson can tell you that!!
As we all know, KJLH/California radio is different than radio in any other part of the country. Just because a personality can do big numbers in Indianapolis and New Orleans, doesn't mean they'll do well on the west coast.

Souljah Boy or the ring tone king was invited to perform at the WPGC Birthday Bash. WPGC is a CBS radio affiliate based in Washington, D.C. or the DMV. Although Souljah Boy is now over 18, it appears a woman should up at the event acting like his mom. The pictures of Souljah Boy and his crew clearly show the mommie meat giving instructions and , Souljah Boy listening and not saying much.
Other entertainers at the WPGC Birthday Bash were Jay Holiday, WHAT Band, Lloyd, Shorty Lo and many others. Streetroachpics.com was able to capture pictures and video of the event along with a few of the WPGC radio host.

Hip-hop pioneer `Slick Rick' pardoned by N.Y. gov
New York Gov. David Paterson is granting a full and unconditional pardon to rapper Ricky "Slick Rick" Walters for the attempted murders of two men in 1991.
The pardon is expected to halt efforts to deport Walters to the United Kingdom, the country he left as a child.
The eyepatch-wearing star behind the '80s rap classic "La-Di-Da-Di" served more than five years in prison after the shooting of his cousin and another man. Both survived.
The governor says Walters is now a rap artist and landlord in the Bronx who hasn't had any criminal problems since his release from prison in 1997. He also says Walters has volunteered to counsel youths against violence.

Let her mix again, that would shake up Chicago radio, damn sure of it!
Podcast audience is growing "tremendously."
That's according to Edison Media Research, which found the number of Americans who downloaded and listened to an audio podcast grew from 13% to 18% in the past year. Edison Research VP Tom Webster says stations should create as much "podcast-able content" as they can.
I told you before that my Podcast is gettng more listeners than many small market radio stations.
Thanks for information that was real radio in the 80's. And in Chicago, If you had the talent you got noticed. Somebody needs to tell the story of the 80's battles between BMX and GCI .
I remebember listening to 'BMX Mixes in Michigan back in the day! "BMX was a legend!

Nice to read from a REAL RADIO VET!
Question 1,
I've been here a little over 22 years and I've NEVER heard of a woman djing on Chicago radio, let alone V103, when I got here, WBMX was coming to an end.
Since V103 has been up and running I've never heard a woman, I've never heard a woman on WGCI, B96, WJPC or even Power 92, but they are still fairly new, so they don't count....
Why are women so far and in between djing on Chicago radio?
I'm a little sensitive because I have a niece thats a dj, I speak with alot of female djs in different markets and since I've been here they don't exist...
Please respond....
But, I can tell you that in the early 90's ('90-91) I approached several popular Chicago female mixers about being featured on the mix show on WGCI. They each told me that they didn't have an interest on being on the radio and wanted to remain exclusive to the underground scene. I was surprised because most of us assume that everybody wants to be on the radio and as I mentioned before we had female mixers Ms. Mystery and Xaviera Gold on WBMX in the mid '80's.
There has been only one female mixer since then that I am personally aware of that made it known that she wanted to mix on-air and that is "Sundance." Email me club1075@aol.com
Now watch, They add her, all the radio stations will be scrambling to search for a female dj, Good sh*it for V103.....
Smarter program director.....
Do yo Damn Thang Boy!!
